First thing to consider is that the price isn't that bad, it's performing better than 99.9% of cryptos as old as it is and is sitting comfortably in the top 20, often nearing the top 10.

Now, a few outliers have overperformed LINK when you focus on the past 4 years or so. What comes to mind is BTC, SOL, DOGE and XRP.
The reason is these coins had an enormous amount of buying pressure from retail :
BTC because the easy to understand "reserve of value" meme kept gaining more and more media attention and popularity
XRP because it has been relentlessly shilled by a lot of big crypto influencers
DOGE because it was shilled by Musk and everyone thought it would be funny to go along with it, creating a huge bubble as well as birthing the memecoin market
SOL, because you need to buy SOL to play in the shitcoins casino that gained popularity in the part couple years.

Right now, LINK doesn't have the kind of media attention or systemic buying pressure comparable to those. Sure Sergey publicly talked to Trump, but without dozen of influencers to hype this fact to their audience, it's pretty much as if it didn't happen.
So as long as LINK doesn't have a relentless shill industry or an actual massive buying pressure, there's no reason to think it will massively outperform its top 20 competitors.
In the meantime, it will still keep growing at the same rate as the cryptos market, and will still massively outperform 99.99999% of alts (which isn't saying much). And yes, it will still dump with the rest of the market whenever BTC sneeze.
