What am I in for bros. I played it briefly on the first Switch waaaay back in the day but I *hated* the degradable weapons and I couldn’t get past the 30fps. I literally have been waiting for seven years to play this game properly, and here we go.

I will just get over the degradable weapons I suppose and not even worry about it. I’m gonna try to think of them like ammunition in a Resident Evil game; since I enjoy those and don’t mind ammo conservation there.

Anyway, game looks amazing - like, if this were a launch Switch 2 title I wouldn’t even be mad. It was worth waiting for, especially since if I enjoy it there’s a whole ass sequel waiting for me. I’m gonna play it fairly blind, and see how far I get, but i apparently downloaded the companion app if I need some help finding shit

DLC is best purchased early if you want to add it, because most of the bonus outfits are outclassed by late-game items (because the DLC outfits can't be upgraded).
Plus the horse-summoning/Teleport circle features are nice QoL enhancements.
Overall, just have a good time, go anywhere you want.
Always check out a shrine when you see one, you don't need to complete it, but just activating it gets you a warp point.
Don't worry about actively looking for Koroks, you'll find enough as you go.

I "get" and don't "get" weapons degradation hate. I think it's a necessary game design evil. For the gameplay loop to encourage exploration and rewards. However, I also believe they should've had some NPC questline that gives you a key item that prevents a melee from breaking and you can take it back to the NPC for repair. Or there's a super long questline that unlocks a powerup that lets you instantly repair like 3 swords during one blood moon cycle, after you use up the repair the next blood moon resets your power and you can redo it.

The were many ways to bandaid this necessary evil with breakable weapons, that neither the DLC or Tears of Kingdom tried to repair. Here's an added tip, in both games you can build Link's house and you can place shields/sword for display, use these as extra inventory slots. I think it becomes more manageable by the mid game but the problem never really goes away, ie why use a good weapon against some shitter mob. The Master Sword is a halfway fix into this.

So if you want to tolerate the system just get The Master Sword ASAP and build Link's house for displaying bows/melees/shields as a bank for your rare weapons.

>durability
Youre meant to absolutely destroy any chance of fun and engaging gameplay by spamming bombs, thats why you get them so early(ATROCIOUS GAME DESIGN)
Im getting filtered by the gyro controls shrines, ran into 2 in a row, supposedly there are only 2...not sure about that. I am NOT buying another controller ever again and this old ds4 cant seem to get its gyro functioning again despite me never using it.

Not really? Tears I consider a sidegrade to the problem. In BoTW I hoarded my more unique melees (the elemental swords, higher tier damage stuff), in TOTK I hoarded the weapons I fused with big boy damage (+50 beat stick ores and monster drops). It's less of a pain in ToTK but still not the fix I wanted. Should've let Link regenerate a set number broken weapon per blood moon cycle as a sage power in the mid game.

Let's break it down.
>BOTW
You don't want to give up your best melee against shitter mobs.
>TOTK
You don't want to give up your best melee enhanced weapons against shitter mobs.

In both games you do get randomized fused melee loot drops (from enemy drops themselves or chests). So if you're carrying weapons with +40 damage you might see +20 damage drops from random enemy groups if you kill them. What TOTK did was allow you to use your enemy loot as +damage modifiers as a quality of life change, so you could use a generic shitstick and give it a +30 Lizard horn damage modifier. It's a bandaid but not really ideal solution.

The Master Sword is also unable to upgrade unlike BOTW DLC that gave it more endurance and power. One of the best changes they could've implemented was allow the Master Sword zero endurance penalty when hitting ore minerals or trees, but alas Nintendo said no.

For the most part I would agree, but it did happen to me once. When I was new to the game and went out exploring way too far in one direction, I found one of the 'harder' combat shrines where you fight only one robot. All my low tier weapons broke before the thing died and I had to resort to bomb throwing iirc. This was before I had enough seeds to upgrade my weapon capacity much.

I don't mean to sound rude, but how would you solve it? Do you looter RPG like Diablos or looter shooter like Borderlands? In both of them the higher damage loot are nice for NG, but beneficial for NG+ enemy HP scaling. BOTW and TOTK have a dynamic difficulty tied to the number of dungeons you clear + heart containers (changes the colors of the enemies as an indicator). The problem is their poor implementation means in BOTW is quite easy to burn through melees fighting higher tier enemies only to get a shitter drop. They were on the right track with the master sword in BOTW. It glows blue when in the presence of Ganon bosses or Guardians to demonstrate it has a higher damage output, it should've been unlimited endurance with that higher damage buff added to those enemy types.

It was never a problem that needed to be solved. Other fantasy open worlds don't have this issue, it is only because of laziness. Same reason why there's practically no enemy variety, everything is copy pasted, korok seeds do nothing except expand your inventory and feed into durability in the worst way that just makes you dig around in your inventory instead of thinking on your feet, etc. The world is far too bloated with too little real content and the only reason weapons break is to serve as micro-rewards and to try and trick people into engaging in pointless combat that only serves to break and reacquire weapons.

No it didn't. It's still a completely pointless and annoying system. Plus ToTK introduced its own set of dogshit systems that needed way more time in the oven to be refined.
It's more content but worse content. Maybe that's overall an improvement for some people though.

>>714903829
There's an invisible system in the game that levels up the enemies when you kill enough of them. So just add a similar system where you can use monster parts or rupees or whatever to permanently upgrade your weapon. Hell, maybe even introduced a sidequest akin to the Goron trade sequence from OoT when the enemies level up since these games are so utterly fucking lacking in good sidequests. It was fine when the upgrades were permanent in the older games.

There is no reason to kill enemies in tears after a certain point because the durability system is still an infinite feedback loop that heavily favors the player and you never have to give much thought to the system. At least I didn't. There was practically never a time when I felt I needed to hoard weapons or save good ones for certain mobs because you get so many of them along with monster parts.

Plus I don't think there needs to be some contrived grinding system anyway. It's not an RPG and we already had the armor upgrades.

That's basically what it is, yeah. New weapons are easy to find, even the high end ones, so you just burn through them and pick new ones up no big deal. If you really really can't stand it you can always do a quick sneaking run through Hyrule Castle to loot a bunch of high end weapons that take much longer to break.

>I literally have been waiting for seven years to play this game properly, and here we go.
you could've played on an emulator for free and removed/improved weapon durability mechanic to your liking years ago, for free, at 60fps in 4k (or whatever max your setup allows for) years ago

you still can, its quite easy to find builds of either emulator and the wiiu one as well

regardless its a pretty great game the first time around, 8/10 overall but its no Elden Ring, but dont let the tendies hear you say that

Post your age right now. I'm genuinely serious and I mandate a mod to force you answer this question. You are googling how to get past the tutorial stage of Breath of the Wild. This is why Zelda games had nagging navigator tutorials for 20 fucking years and doing block pushing puzzles for 20 fucking years.

Did you know you can chop trees and make a torch to carry around to keep yourself warm? Did you know you can make your own campfires to skip time of day at any time with basic flint, wood, and a spark from any melee? Did you know these are intuitive things you do in real life and you might even experiment yourself?

Did you ask an AI how to solve this for you, zoomer baby OP? No wonder so many zoomers today can't make ramen soup, kids and young adults these days Jesus Christ this generation is so fucked beyond relief.

Genshin has vistas, quests, and a large variety of characters and puzzles to find and there's a feeling of completionism when you find all the stuff in a region unlike with BOTW which just feels empty when you find a chest or whatever. The rewards you find in chests aren't very interesting I agree but at least they have useful currencies in them.

Nobody fucking said witcher 3 was 0/10 ubislop because it was open world and had item degradation (and fucking weight limits), and they only said that because it wasnt a nintendo game.
The idea of a "nintendo bonus" is fucking retarded because its literally only not okay when nintendo does it,fucking red dead came out at the same time and despite people pointing out that youll spend 30 minutes walking across a completely barren landscape to get to the next bit of life, nobody called it "dead world", but people will go out of there way to call botw and totk "dead worlds" because "all it has between myself and my point of interest are combat encounters, item pickups, collectables, and lore drops"

Basically, the hate for weapons breaking is because "I played ocarina as a child and that means everything that is different from ocarina is literal trash", since weapon breaking applies to even the master sword, they see it as an "insult" to the fucking fictional sword.
I fucking hate tendies so much.

Pretty sure you are told by NPCs about the flint thing but even if you weren't the flint description tells you what it does and you know sitting at campfires skips time because you can do so wherever they're placed by the game such as at the stables. The game doesn't literally pop a tutorial screen for every single mechanic and it's by design. You're supposed to power up as a player by expanding your knowledge and experience with the game world. Even despite that there's usually NPC dialogue all over the place that nudges you towards what you need or might want to do and if you didn't figure out that making fire makes you warmer I gotta wonder how you dress yourself up in the morning

Weapon degradation isn't even that bad and I like the gameplay scenarios it creates. I know this is impossible to know on a first playthrough, but no weapon is so precious that you shouldn't use it, you will find more. Go wherever you want, get distracted, mark discoveries like bosses and minigames on your map to make things easier for you in the future.

I haven't used the Zelda Notes applet too much, but my first impression is that you shouldn't bother using it until post-game clean-up in which case it would be far more convenient than using a traditional guide.

Chill out sweaty. It literally is never explained in the game; meanwhile they interrupt my game to tell me the most basic shit and never even hint about other stuff. Cooking is such a core mechanic that they needed to have a brief tutorial for it, and it would have sufficed to have the old man say “there’s many ways to stay warm! Use your imagination.”

Dont think of it as a Zelda game. It's not a traditional one. It's a big exploration world, where you can go whereever you want, and the world mostly only scale when you finish temples, so you are fine doing the temple you want first. There is 700 Koroks to find, and they can be anything, anywhere, if it look like a Puzzle thing, it probably is. Look for patterns. While finding 700 is not needed, finding the max is good because it increase the amount of weapons and stuff you can carry.

Also, try to go blind. Finding weird stuff is the way to go.
