I remember really liking my game when I was young but never finishing it, I went back to it last year and found it to be a massive slog.
However I will admit that the a lot of it's systems such as photography/invention, weapon upgrading, golf, fishing, and fish races was cool as fuck, even if the base gameplay sucked 90% of the time. Found the story to be lame too.
The fact this came out very early on ps2's cycle with the amount of systems contained in it is great but imo it hasn't aged well

use your guard button
if you still take damage while guarding you either missed power ups or you're fighting an enemy you're supposed to use the ridepod on. to be fair about the power ups they're found in tiny ass chests that are hard to see so they're pretty easy to miss.
If you don't get how to optimally upgrade weapons the end of the game gets kind of difficult too.

More like the game makes me hard. That said, I don't know why I enjoyed it so much more than Rogue Galaxy. Maybe it was the stamina system in Rogue Galaxy feeling unfitting, maybe it was the random encounters, maybe it was because they're so bad at dungeon design that the random dungeons were better or maybe I was just horny for Monica, I don't know.
