Not a single thing peaked in Gen 2.
The region is boring as fuck and the routes are simpler than anything up to Gen 8, the Pokemon distribution is dogshit, the pacing is horrendous, the level curve falls off a cliff after Ecruteak, the TM and evolution item placements are retarded. HGSS are also dogshit, there's never been a good Johto, shit region full of shitmons, trash bosses, and trannies like Lyra and Bugsy.

In a way, I pity the zoomlets who aren't old enough to have experienced the Gold and Silver release. After all, you can't know what you can't know and they were sadly raised in the slop era. They can't comprehend a sequel that actually expands and transforms an already revolutionary game like that.

Pretty much. Gen 2 had so many good additions that made sense in fleshing out the world in a tasteful direction without any compromises. It was 1 step forward 2 steps back from then on.

GSC was a soulless cashgrab rushed to try to make as much money as fast as possible
problem is there wasn't enough content developed because of this, so much of the game ended up being designed around padding such as that to artifically inflate playtime
