jacks game is both a better action game and feels more like a final fantasy game so I'm unsure why ff16 needs to even exist. yoshiP is so much of a FFT fanboy he kept the part where the first few hours are interesting political stuff and then rather then actually make a statement on how to resolve these issues just go "the alien god was behind it all, kill him with lasers"

my complaints with the game would the boring as fuck side quests and the dialogue as a whole. I can put my thoughts together as to why I found it
so boring since I actually did like the characters and the story. maybe its the pacing? I dunno man but playing through the game at times most definitely felt like a chore.
my other complaint is the combat was fun at first but by the end I had enough of it since even at the hardest difficulty it boils down to get 5 charges with Odin and Zangetsu away. enemies also provided no variation, feels like you use the same strategy on all of them.
bosses are cool.
music is fantastic, so good actually.
graphics look good although I personally wish it had more bright sci fi medieval parts like the dlcs and the end of base game.
overall its a weird game, one which I enjoyed but dunno if would recommend to others unless they asked me about it.

7 Remake was good. It almost nailed the balance of tactical and action. 7 Rebirth fucking sucked because it became too much about mashing and blasting those special team attacks.

I think this game's biggest issue is ultimately its shallow writing
Its other shortcomings could be forgiven (and have been in other movie games) if the story wasn't so inane

Story was pretty fucking solid.
Setting was great. Despite using some tropes, it didn't feel like many other games. It's like FF fucked Demon Souls for atmosphere.
Characters were great. Many compelling villains. Great protagonist and deuteragonists.
Gameplay was pretty fun.
Possibly not enough challenge - only died to the Leviathan DPS check because there aren't many (any?) others like it in the game. FF7R was harder imo.
Enjoyed the flexibility in the gameplay systems - you didn't feel penned into using certain abilities.

I mostly liked it but in retrospect they really stretched it out farther than they should have for no good reason
It's barely an RPG, yet the amount of padding assumes that you're either really invested in the world or the gameplay is keeping you enthralled, and neither are really true when you're trudging through side quests that only really involve talking to someone/teleporting somewhere else to talk to someone/fighting something. Clive's moveset just isn't that deep and the game isn't structured to give you enough shit to mess with to make it interesting, so you're just playing a pretty good but slow DmC game for way longer than you'd want to

These boss fights were so long and drawn out. Every attack you do takes just a little chip of the boss' health away. It kills all momentum.

Personally, I really like the Barnabas fight, his VA is great in it and the music is amazing. First Ultima fight is meh, the Origin bosses are amazing IMO, just a shame the DLC completely kills the difficulty scaling for them.

because it's not a final fantasy, I know flashing lights and pretty colors immediately caught your attention but the core game is completely different of a final fantasy. to put it in words an american can understand, imagine that you want to eat a hamburger and you go to McDonalds to eat your hamburger, you ask for a hamburger but you are given a soup, the soup was made with the ingredients used in a hamburger and then filtered to make it into a liquid that it doesn't really taste like a hamburger but the ingredients are the same so technically it's a hamburger, that's what FF16 is, a hamburger soup.

FF16 is a pretty interesting case study on finding out what people value in a video game. Funny thing is I played XIV from 2.3 all the way through 7.0, yet I could barely stomach XVI and had to struggle to even finish it over how insanely bored if it I had become of it around the time you go to Kanver. I guess some people can be kept entertained by constant explosions, while for me neither the characters, story, or gameplay had me hooked at any point in time.
