Fans have fixed the disasterous SH ports that Konami made. It's now a golden age for Silent Hill.

>shit make
>paint by numbers by untalented retards
>Asset store assets and textures
>wonky Donkey kong people
>everyone going through the motions for a paycehck
>Unreal engine tripe
>magnetic attacks and cinematic melee animations
>literally no hit detection
>Silent Hill 1, a 1999 PS1 game, has hit detection, making it more mechanically complex than SH2 remake
>melee combat feels like turn based affairs from some rpg

I swear to god everyone has low standards and just eats up this tripe.

Feels like most western devs make their โ€œcombatโ€ like this nowadays. No real hit detection, no ability to use spacing, no dynamic interactions between players and enemies. Literally just Paper Mario. But at least Paper Mario has RPG progression and badges and shit. Modern western triple gaymes are essentially turn-based combat but without even the bare minimum strategy required by the average JRPG. Itโ€™s almost impressive that they keep finding ways to get worse over the years.

Yeah, it litearlly feels like I'm playing Final Fantasy 7 again. Sh2 remake alternates between FF7 for melee then a watered down Resident Evil 2 remake for guns. It's very jarring.

It's done most likely because it's simpler to do, so it streamlines the process, and because "popular game" does it like Calisto Protocol.

I feel like I'm Frank grimes for hating this shit since no one else seems to care and praises this kind of combat. Because they're easily impressed by canned animations?

Hack modern devs have no idea how to use anything other than Unreal engine, so they made a completely new game from the start wearing the SH2 skin. It's why the game is a mish-mash of asset store assets.

Though I might be overly optimistic, if I were in charge I'd take the base game and then keep expanding it, adding new graphical effects and lighting and new models, so you keep the core gameplay and mechanics the same.

to put it into perspective: supposedly no one noticed Maria had a giant noggin during the entire dev time of 2 years. No one. When the game was released, everyone mocked it, with some people saying it was haters or mysognists. Then one of the first updates is to shrink Maria's head. But that's only the start. Almost all the characters have body and head proportions that are off, and Maria's only the most glaring example. No one on the dev team has any background in art or anatomy.

>Maria had a giant noggin
Man I felt so vindicated after they rescaled the head in the first patch, since I kept saying their heads are too big in the trailers and shots before release but retards kept deflecting.

But even after they fixed it it's still off and like you said other characters have more anatomy problems so they look cartoony as fuck. Thankfully I didn't buy it after I was burned by the Demon's Souls demake I borrowed. That one looked cartoony too for some reasons.

SH1 decomp is nearly at 16% btw (and 40% of game engine)
any reverserfags should join in, there's guides for setting it up in ghidra etc: https://github.com/Vatuu/silent-hill-decomp

Thank you, I was wondering how far afar that was. Giving Sh1 SH2-3 PC lighting would help a lot, as would fixing all the bugs and having it run at 60fps.
