And for COE33 specifically it's a weird case because it was majorly funded by its publisher. For all the quadrillionaire dad CEO nepo project schizoposts, the game (Project W) looked rough before Kepler was involved, they funded full time development for 3 years. But they are a weird indie studio collective thing that supposedly doesn't interfere with development or creative vision.
It isn't "AA" the same way ELEX was under THQ Nordic, but you can't really call it indie either, yet Rematch is a new Kepler game yet you could call it indie, but its studio is owned by Kepler unlike with Sandfall.
