I think, that would be fitting for something like dark elves, while I don't see usual elves having this ambition for power (as long as they don't deem it necessary). And if you had dark elves there surely would be groups trying to disrupt their plans.
For other elves, I think they would only see the necessity, to take control of a corporation when global capitalism is already on its way. Basically when the societal and ecologic problems are apparent, it's clear that it's not just a human fad and when other measures seem futile. I expect a lot of Kaczynski type terrorism, but also some organized efforts by a few groups to take control. The latter being only one group among many, by many different races and interest groups, vying for dominance over the corporate landscape. They'd probably be damn ruthless, since it'd be an emergency in their books, and other elves would likely regard them as weirdos or even enemies. It's also expectant in a world with different races, that humans, dwarfs etc. have their ways of dealing with elven competition.

Underappreciated portrayals of elves in media? We all know about WoW/Warhammer/Tolkien/etc elves already, let's give some of the lesser-known knife ears some attention so that we might better appreciate the fullness of what Elves are and can be.

For me it has to be the Lorwyn/Shadowmoor Elves, fell in love with them as soon as I started playing Magic: the Gathering. Which was, uncoincidentally, right when Shadowmoor released. It's actually quite novel how they incorporate both halves of the Light Elf // Dark Elf dichotomy, where the "Lightness" or "Darkness" is context dependent: In Lorwyn, a world of perpetual day where everything is idyllic and low-stakes, being exclusionary and literally worshipping beauty made them the antagonists. In Shadowmoor, a world of perpetual night where everything is twisted and monstrous, being exclusionary and worshipping beauty makes them the only ones trying to keep the world from going to total shit.

We had these types of generals in the past. They were awful. Justified with there always being some dumb elf threads in the catalog (of the lust inducing image + irrelevant time-wasting question type), to at least concentrated that awfulness in one thread.

Another choice that has interested me lately is to run the GDW house system and combining dark conspiracy and traveler 2300 magic/psionics rules, might be some good stuff in merc 2000 as well. Might be a bit insane to run, but could be fun.

The point of differentiating elves by ears is because there was a Szarkai (Albino dark elf) NPC that terrorized a couple of party members and the party eventually learned from an extremely racist high elf slave (Rennata) how to spot it different elves by ears alone.

Dislike the Masquerade approach as well. I like the way Hilda handled modern fantasy. Some people have them near-flat against their head, so stretching the top of the helix vertically to a point makes that nice upward leaf shape without compromising the humanoid ear shape too much. Some people do have a bit more of an outward cup that points the top of the ear at a different angle where extending it would lead the ear farther away from the head. It makes more sense, if we look at a more traditional approach at elves (and other fantastical beings). The book "Broken Sword" by Poul Anderson puts it well. Humans are basically OP, they are protected by the one true God, can touch iron etc. They're mostly limited by their mortal life spans and their daily toils. Elves sometimes steal children that haven't been baptized yet, in order to raise them amongst themselves and train them into elite warriors and leaders in times of war. Though this wouldn't translate too well into most game systems.
Another explanation more fit fore games is that humans do in fact not learn faster than elves or other races, but they just tend to produce exceptional individuals from time to time.

In my system, humans are put into a divine-spellcasting role plus an affinity to technology-based skills, so they can get easy access to shooting the gun. Some of their mechanics are dedicated to supporting others. So, despite the admittedly baity post, they still have their strengths. Just like everyone else.

Yeah, that makes sense. For a race such as humans with that limited amount of lifespan, good level of intelligence and communicative skill to focus on big organizations as some sort power-multiplier. Elves would definitely focus on themselves, working on their skills and knowledge. Something like organizations and positions of power would probably be too fleeting and too fickle for them. Not saying that they can't hold offices or build organizations, but for a human it makes more sense to put effort into something that can outlive him. Whereas the elf can enjoy getting better and better during his long lifespan.

Organizations doesn't really work for a player character, though. I personally like humans focused on spirituality, because they have the right amount of mortality, culture and intelligence to really think about the afterlife a lot. Whereas something like goblins live in the moment. And something like elves and dwarves are on the other end of the spectrum, having to deal with being alive far longer, and should for the opposite reasons be more concerned about the mortal world.

Memes aside, I'm partial towards straight blades for TWF because that was my first character's build on account of me not knowing any better. Eventually swapped one of his blades for a rapier, leaving his old one-hander from his youth in the off-hand similar to a big parrying dagger. His style was about small and precise movements while reserving his performative grace for acrobatic pursuit and evasive footwork.
However there is absolutely a market for elegant dance-like combat with curved blades to emphasize motion.

Can't say for sure, but I think the logic is that curved blades while swinging tend to "wrap" themselves around the user and thus won't get in the way of the other sword much. But that depends entirely on how you use them as well. Or how big the curvature is.

Sword autist here.
Dual wielding in general is a tricky topic. It was rarely done and mostly with weapons that had the main function of parrying. For military purposes it was pretty much non existant.
As to curved swords and sabers: The curve helps to maintain an angle at which the blade can cut more easily when swinging it. Think of cutting a piece of paper with scissors and finding that sweet spot where you can just push the scissor through. That's of course just the short version.

Martial artist with 15 years training with sword here (HEMA/kendo and adjacent stuff)
Dual wielding was solely used in duels and rarely if ever in combat with more than 5 people. Most effective way to dual wield is to have one longer straight and one shorter sword, prefferably with a "locking" hilt (picrel).
While I did see a couple of people try dual-wield curved swords, as anon above said, the weight of the blade makes it top heavy so you are mostly restricted to circular movements which are extremely predictable. Big reason why straight swords are used are simply because of overwhelming reach AND you have an option to stab which opens up very big pool of possibilities and techniques.

We're not talking about men going to war in the first place. This is /tg/ after all. We're talking about people who wander around looking for situations that need a strong arm to fix. With that noted, we could think of reasons someone would dual wield. It's more of a strategic choice and not a way of life. Need to present a threat on multiple angles at once? An off hand weapon for defense is less trouble to carry long distances than a shield or can be kept on you in case of an ambush. We could think of reasons all day where you'd be thankful you knew how to do it.

But why do it as the one thing you always do?

I think the issue is fantasy, and RPGs in particular, often assume your guy can only do the one thing in his entire life and not much else. Is a polearm better for this situation? A shield? Tight quarters means short weapons? Who cares. Your incredibly finite character resources are going to be invested in only one of your many options. Well, as if most systems even model a difference in these choices anyway, but logic breaks down at the first step. Why would you dual wield? Well, in most situations you wouldn't, but the one time it comes up it may save your life. But now we bow to the supremacy of most worthy investments. The logic falters at step one. Though, by that same note, it's fine just like that. Not like the game is going to punish you for it. A character's approach to combat also tends to be part of their entire theme and look. Which is what it's really about.

The most common explanation for fertility rates is that elves don't feel the need to shit out children left and right and have better things to do. There's no rare slot for elven children that needs to be carefully and selectively filled.

Tolkien elves have very limited capacity for children, as the parents give their power to them. Having more than three kids is very rare for them.
Your "most common explanation" does not apply to every setting, maybe not even for many. It's sometimes noted that elfen pregnancy lasts longer compared to human pregnancy, and they spend more time raising their children. So female elves being more picky makes a lot of sense.
