WoW's story was always hit or miss, but it used to have some cool elements. But Shadowlands has destroyed what scraps of the world and lore were left and nothing short of a full reset can save it now. WoD was bad with time travel, but at least they could just shove that off to the side and pretend it never happened. You can't undo what Shadowlands did, life and death don't matter, all beliefs and religions of all the races are fake it's all 3D printed robot gods, none of the characters had any agency as it was all part of the jailer's master plan, it's an abomination.

WoD was the most fun I've ever had in WoW and it was because of PvP. Brewmaster in Alterac Valley in particular, Horde side. I'd meet the Alliance rush at the start of every match, clash the person way at the back, and the begin a massive chain of CC as everyone in line gets stunned. Breath of Fire disorient spam, Ring of Peace, another Clash, the whole shebang.
What this did was piss off fucking *everybody* and, like a true tank, direct their attention onto myself. There was no way I could survive of course given that it was me versus 30 people, but I didn't have to. With the CC and then kiting afterwards, I'd split their raid in half causing them to wipe on Galv as the other half bitchseethes trying to chase me and my uncatchable mobility. After buying enough time I'd throw off the entire flow of the fucking match, causing a turtle much to the displeasure of both my team and theirs.

The only reason I played WoW was because the setting was cool and the lore was like pg13 Warhammer (goofy, but with some metal stuff).

Now everything is about the same cast of 6-12 characters doing everything (like if it was some capeslop shit), the world stopped being the center piece (playing classic really opened my eyes how cool it used to be), the lore got killed (I can't even begin to describe the damage Shadowlands did to the IP) and the writing is beyond worthless (I would be ok with the new retcons if it actually had competent writers being them, but they just forced their shitty fanfic into everything, ruining even past events that used to be cool).

The intro for BFA was the last time I was interested in where the story could go. Real conflict, real stakes, putting the war back in warcraft. If you took out Quel'thalas you would not only lose the Sunwell but also everything the blood elves siphoned to survive, such as local wildlife or the remaining ruins of their society that still contained some magic. Blood elves already lost 90% of their population to Arthas when he made the Dead Scar. Destroying Quel'thalas outright would leave 10% of that 10% remaining, and without any source of magic they would just become evil magic-draining wandering gypsies again. This was what they were originally until BC (specifically in the old RPG prior to them being playable), they were assisted by Velen and the Naaru and the Sunwell was restored.

Now the idea of playing as a wandering elf-gypsy who mistrusts everyone and drains mana like a vampire is cool, and I would absolutely play as one, but at that point you could never redeem them a second time. Their Alliance equivalent (Quel'dorei) still despises them and would kill a blood elf on sight, as would all their friends. There is no Sylvanas Windrunner around anymore to vouch for them anymore. And even then, why would they remain in the Horde if they couldn't help them protect the Sunwell and there's absolutely no replacement anywhere? The best they could do is integrate into the Nightborne and siphon their Nightwell, but that's a Nightwell, not a Sunwell.
