>>715007118I guess there's possibly a distinction between games that are free, without any in-game purchases and ones that have them?
I'd have to have another look.
>>715006895>using 4chan as a representation for anythingLol
>>715006942That's a good question. There's already a number of free flash and browser-based games that have been lost to time. SM35 might still count, since you needed an active NSO subscription.
>>715007268Have a (You), troll.
>>715006146>WAAHHH nintendo took down one out of the billion rom sites. There's no way to play these games anymoreHoly fuck, quit being such a whiny little faggot
>>715006972Probably because the people trying to push it are needlessly hostile so instead of winning people over you piss people off and so they decide to shit up one of the MANY threads you spam on this every fucking?
>>715007283So the example the other anon used was wrong.
Thanks anon.
>>715007086Try and guess what point I was making when I brought it up.
>>715007021>It counts because... it doesn't matter if you can't play them! And as we know, games exist not to be played, just to float around as code inside a hard drive! You must be over 18 to post here.
>>715007596>>715006680You can't preserve a service becauae you can't own a service
>>715007283>When a publisher ends a free-to-play game without providing any recourse to the players, they are effectively robbing those that bought features for the game.Honestly the fact that every gacha gets away with this is the worst thing.
>>715007712This.
It's the same as wanting that your Cabe TV offer your it's Cabe service forever. It's simply not possible or viable.
Someday, a service ends.
>>715007913> the same as wanting that your Cabe TV No it's not.
Cable TV is a constant stream of new content being made, multiplayer servers are literally a computer running a piece of software.
If you get this software and run on a computer you own, you can play it.
Just ask the game that sold 350 million copies.
>>715007426So... if there are a billion ROM sites and taking down a few won't change anything, why do they take them down? It's better not to bother and not to take down any sites, right?
>>715006972So essentially making private servers more ubiquitous? Is that the takeaway, to make it easier for users to host servers for their own games?
>>715008195They take down only the ones that are profiteering. Which they should.
>>715001662>Why are you guys acting like Nintendo said anything about Stop Killing Games? Why would they allow their logo to be attached to something like this otherwise?
>>715008462That's exactly it.
"give the software that users need to host their own servers so they can keep playing it".

>>715001487"when you sunset a game, give us the server code so we can keep playing it".
>>715007238Kek, imagine putting this into your EULA thinking it's in any way enforceable
>>715008810and then people start injecting viruses into other people's systems.
>>715008669>give the software that users need to host their own servers so they can profit off of someone elses work"
>>715008810>"when you sunset a game, give us the server code so we can sell access to it instead"
you want to give trannies their own private splatoon servers to groom children in?
>>714993791Ok. So let the consumers decide what is worth preserving, not corporations.
I don't really care about SKG, but tell me this; If it wins, will Nintendo be required to put all of their old games on a modern playable console? Because if so, that's funny as hell and I hope it happens.
>>715008983It's either a 4D chess move or a rage move.
>>715009032>>715009067I mean, if you had friends, you would understand the scenario where you can host a server of a old game you guys liked to play but is no longer officially available.
But you don't so ya.
>>715009264skg has nothing to do with offline games or old games, it's entierely about live service slop
>>715009158>literal think of the children argument
>>715009265>yaIn English it's spelled "yeah". Also hosting private servers of Dayz, ARK, Conan, Fallguys, Rocket League, etc etc etc wouldnt matter to my friends and I at all because we never once played offline local.
>>715009402Stumped you so hard you had to pull out a canned response
Expecting private servers to maintain the same standards that a company like Nintendo does when it comes to child safety is a big deal here, troons are always complaining that Nintendo doesn't let them voice chat with children online
>>715008462That is the whole point. For online games that rely on a central server, when the game reaches end of life the publishers/devs just turn off the servers and that's it, the game is bricked and you paid for a product you cannot use anymore. Sometimes, years later, users reverse engineer the servers and the game can be played again.
SKG is petitioning the EU for legislation to mandate that game developers must provide end users with the means to either play the game offline or host servers themselves upon the game's end of life. Publishers are whining that this will cost millions, but that's just a cope because the current business model is to turn all games into a service, when one dies you must buy and play the next. They don't want you to keep playing games they can't profit from because they decided to not support them anymore.
>>715009067Why do you immediately assume it would end up for profit? Current private servers are not for profit outside of free will donation, so what about this would suddenly turn them into scam central?
>>715006972>why do retards itt fail to understand this?gotta make everything about and against nintendo!
>>715009664>Private servers would implement voice chat
>>715010139Oh you sweet summer child
Everytime i join a thread about nintendo doing something anti consoomer all i see is that its okay that nintendo does it cause other companies do it too and uhhh *posts sales*
why is that? Most of this thread is defending nintendo, why does this site attract the biggest tendie defenders? What do they gain for it?
>>715009664As it would be nintendo providing the software, and the switch is a locked down platform, they could easily make the private servers only work with 18+ accounts if it's the case, or not implement voice chat.
>>715010187even being able to advertise their discord in game would be dangerous for younger players
Nintendo does a lot to keep perverted freaks from being able to contact the other players and a privately run server would never maintain the same standards.
I want to still be able to play my games 20 years from now. That's it. THAT'S LITERALLY FUCKING IT!
>>715010552Not retroactive thoughever.
If Blizzard decided to shut down WoW right after SKG passed, you can't do shit.
>>715010552A multiplayer game on an empty server with no other users isn't a game. Why can't you get this through your NEET skull?
>>715001878>what does stop killing games have to do with nintendo killing games
>>715010689Let me give you a simple scenario.
I own a museum, a gaming museum.
I want to display popular games from say 2010-2020 on it.
I can't do it because it was all burned to the ground.
>>715010867>not to play it, but to profit off of itOk? Sorry you can't profit off of showing off your game library?
>>715010552wait all you want isโฆto play the games you liked 20 years agoโฆwhen nintendo said thats a bad thing???

>>715003550In the vidya context? No they aren't.
>>715001838For what its worth, this game has fan made private servers. They're pretty dead so you can almost never get a full lobby, but they work.
>>715011041I can't do a free museum either.
I can't show the past because you allowed people to burn books, because they want to sell new books.
>ERIC ERIC ERIC SNOY ERIC KYS ERIC WAIT TILL YOU SEE THE FAMITSU SALES TOMORROW SNOY SNOY SNOY ERIC
>>715002518Private servers are typically created via reverse engineering without any access to the server code and it's also illegal to host them in a lot of jurisdictions IE burgerstan
>>715011394You also can't play the game either because the game is a community and the community no longer exists. An empty server doesn't change anything.
>>715010552How are you guys having problems with this? Do you not know how to take care of your shit? Kinda crazy to ask for preservation when you cant take care of games already in your possession.
>>715011395and here's what you actually look like
>>715003438The "gotcha" here is that nintendies immediately locked onto Nintendo's name on there with their eagle eyes while also ignoring every other big name on the list. Because... its only good/bad when their beloved company does it, OKAY!?

Honestly, he's a lot like the average /v/ poster. Ugly, contrarian, posterchild for Dunning-Kruger, working on his own game that he barely makes any tangible progress on. He's just like me, frfr.
KEEP killing games, it makes the reddit normalfags seethe. Nintendo doesn't owe you SHIT.
