Zero's story arc was awful but it was part of Endwalker so nobody was willing to criticize it. And then Dawntrail took the heat off it. Really, Zero's whole thing has all the exact same problems as Dawntrail. Honestly FF16’s overall world building was fine, it’s just they put so much effort into something was would be ultimately resolved in one game, so it’s why the story devolves to “kill god”. FF15 split things across various medias to get the full picture, and that didn’t even get to wrap up the DLCs (I was looking forward to it too).
And we’re not in an era anymore where they could just churn out something randomly made like FF7 or FF10. It’s weird, those game’s lore goes as far as what you see, doesn’t get too deep with lore/background. At least until when FF7 kept on expanding itself with the Compilation.
In summary, there’s an expectation for a new game to be fully fleshed out with story and world, but at the same time they needed to develop something in one game as an overcorrection to FF15’s criticism.

If we go with the assumed path, and 8.0 has us leaving for a new shard for whatever reason, what FF game do you hope its inspired from?

For all three of those stories you could remove the Wol and the story would play out the same way, you remove Wuk Lamat and it turns it into a different story entirely which SE/ CS3 won't ever do.

I think you're right, that the high highs of how popular the game was in Shadowbringers and Endwalker made them arrogant, they lost touch with the community, Yoshida even said so himself that they don't play the game that much it's the players who know more about the game then they do because we play it more.

it’s the best form of pvp the game has to offer in my opinion. you still get to use the large scale pvp role actions (which I think are a godsend and infinitely improve the game) but get to do your full damage instead of the 15% or whatever the stupid damage cap is in frontline.
