The game would've honestly been better had Zelda not turned back into a human and stayed as the Light Dragon, leaving Hyrule after. Show some fuckin consequences, and that way the inevitable third game could have Link looking for a way to return her to normal (the Triforce).

This. I am so fucking tired of Nintendo's autistic obsession with avoiding romance. Mario and Peach? Sure, whatever, whatever is between them is just backdrop, who cares. But BotW and TotK both go out of their fucking way to establish that yes, THIS Zelda and THIS Link have a loving relationship. Culminating this obvious love between them with a dramatic sky dive and Link finally seeing Zelda, only for Link to not emote his joy at and continuing to leave their relationship "ambiguous" is fucking trite. Why are they so allergic to the idea of their characters expressing actual romantic interest in each other? It's compelling, it's heartwarming, and it gives the player personal stake to actually give a shit about these otherwise cardboard cutout characters.

This was the least earned ending of any Zelda game that has an actual story by leaps and bounds. It would've been like OoT Link getting his childhood back without having to start his relationship with Zelda over from scratch, except it's 10x worse because you don't have to work at all to overcome Zelda turning into a dragon which the literal 3 goddesses can't even come back from
