It wouldn't be so bad if combat wasn't so fucking rare throughout the MSQ. Out of like 100 fucking quests, each with their own sub-quests, you have to use your entire rotation maybe once or twice.
Obviously, I'm not counting dungeon/trial queues, but those require you to queue up for 10-15 minutes just to fight something.
Sometimes kill X of Y to get quest item Z can be interesting as you actually get to use your new combat abilities.

They had this weird thought that the people who would early clear, the most hardcore players would somehow stick around and then help lesser skilled players which isn't what happened.
When a lot of the more skilled players got their Fork Tower clear, they fucked off or they closed ranks and formed discord cliques where if you weren't friends then you weren't priority and were going to have to wait a long time for your chance to run.
It was a very poorly implemented system, I don't understand why how they had this figured out in Bojza, I played plenty of times in Bojza and people would talk within the instance to ask for numbers to do Castrum runs or whatever and because there were no convoluted means to join a run, if people were bored of grinding they would join a run to help out.

It's really obvious that Yoshida is under the strain of having to manage not a minor division just in charge of an MMO, but overseeing multiple projects.
The man is a notorious micromanager and he can no longer micromanage, and is likely not getting the necessary resources for all these other projects besides XIV.

He still has some horrible takes and is out of his depth himself when it comes to the future FFXIV should aim for, being in the same place WoW was a few expansions ago, but at the very least he used to be a capable producer who could keep deadlines and make sure there was a decent quality/quantity of content for FFXIV. My most positive interaction with XIV ever since DT came out has been playing with my G'raha Tia MTG deck. I like getting to use the scions and remembering the good times i had with this game throughout the years. So, for the foreseeable future Yoshida says he's going to be focusing his attention on FF14 and I sort of see that attitude with the recent Live letter and his action in bringing changes before even waiting for the next patch which if they've done before, they haven't done for a long time.
I know last year Yoshida gave an interview where he said he had to have the finalised story for 8.0 by December of last year as he had to give the design document to the CGI team to work on for the next expansion trailer.
So whatever happens in 7.3 MSQ, the story is locked in.
