I played it for one season, even finished the pass and had my fill. The genre is fundamentally flawed, I want to have fun first and foremost and the 5v5 or 6v6 format is the epitome of no fun allowed. When KoTH is one of the two base modes you type of game can work with you know it's fucked from the start. Paladins in the only one that even approached being fun with some kits like Buck or Pip but it was still very flawed. Not gonna count Dirty Bomb which was also good since it was more of a hero shooter spin on TF2. New BF is gonna suck too probably since they're going to try really hard to get the CoD/Warzone audience.

I don't play live service slop. How do its current numbers compare to Overwatch 2? I heard it was supposed to be its killer.

Paladins was so fucking fun back in the day. Hi-rez is so slept on imo. Their games are all janky but they are peak SOVL if you can ignore the monetization schemes they use. Seems like they actually just try to make games fun over anything else. Also one of the few companies that were putting out very sexy female characters and eye candy during the peak of that period where most companies were too scared of getting cancelled to make visually appealing character designs.

I grinded to gm3 with a 90%+ win rate when the game was new and it still took like 100 games or some shit because there’s no win streak bonuses or anything like that. Fuck that shit I’m not doing it multiple seasons or multiple times a season. Maybe they changed it by now but I’m not going back. Truly the dumbest thing I have ever seen.

Also Apex fell off fucking hard I dropped that game. Them adding the tranny character was about the turning point. Oversaturated DPS cast with the strongest characters available means most people who pick up the game will want to play a DPS character. The most meta comp in ranked with a bunch of randoms is 2 of each class. Not enough people playing healer and tank means healer and tank players have horrible games with majority DPS players who don't understand that it's not CoD and you need strong team comps to win team fights and not CSGO flick headshots (somewhat, high tier gamers who can aim on Hawkeye or Hela hard carry games) so they get fed up trying to get 4 dps insta lockers to try another role and quit. DPS players who just want to play DPS notice the void and switch into tank/heal roles which they don't want to play and quit. Then the remaining playerbase is all quickplay 6 DPS insta lock gamers that nobody wants to play with or against.

Add on top of this the realisation that the matchmaking is literally rigging ranked games by 1% swings in a very complex algorithm that tracks all your playstyle habits and clicks while the game is open so that they can psychologically trick you into buying skins is a pretty fucking wild slap in the face to most gamers. Especially after they grind 100 games or whatever through this forced elo hell only for the season reset to throw you out of solid high elo games back into hell. How about I play Dark Souls for the 6th time instead of doing that grind again Netease?

Finally, general lack of gameplay variety. They try to refresh the core gameplay loop by adding characters and doing frequent buffs/nerfs and adding new maps but they're missing the point. The random weekend game modes are a step in the right direction but they have all been extremely mid. Why not add a horde mode like many multiplayer shooters have done in the past? Good and unique custom games settings? Forge mode? Single player Marvel Campaign? Halo 3 came out almost 20 years ago and figured all this shit out but instead the devs add a 3 day autochess mode?

casual players do not like the holy trinity game design. they do not like being FORCED to play in the way optimal tryhard players do in order to not get completely shut out.
TF2 designed its classes where they all have "objectives" that are on paper pretty selfish (engineer makes a sentry to get kills, spy does spy shit to get kills, scout runs around finding soft targets to get kills ect ect) but which because of clever game design tend to synergize in a way where a bunch of poeple who are acting solo are still causing their overall team to have an advantage. this means that you have a lot more freedom to just play the video game in the way you want instead of in the way the devs want (which is to have all your attacks instantly made irrelevent by healers unless you have ult or someone is massively out of position, which is how every single dogshit hero shooter has ended up being played).
people don't download the marvel game in order to "get picks on the exposed healer", whatever the fuck that means, they download it to fly around as the character they like pressing buttons and seeing cool things happen and get some guy pissed at them for throwing because they aren't playing in a way the game itself never explains is what you should be doing.

I stopped playing because people were taking the unranked matches too seriously and chimping out.

ow2 right now has 20k players, let's assume 10% use steam, a very realistic number, there is no way it's more than 20% since people have been using battle.net as long as steam, it's probably closer to 5%.
Assuming 10%, then the numbers are 200 000 players + console.

Sad part is I had alot of fun with this game for a while. It was the first fun Marvel thing in a long time for me. Now I can't stand it, only the worst parts remain.

Idk how to explain it but the game feels weird. Feels plastic? I guess feels Chinese works. Don't know why but it looks janky even if it's not technically. You don't get the same vibe from playing Overwatch.

Hi-Rez is the epitomy of good games/Ideas on its core and execution but terrible skills at retaning people by making shit that literally no one ask for and runing everyone's time.
