What's the best one-handed weapon in Fallout 2 that isn't an energy weapon? I know there's a killer plasma one in San Frans Brotherhood bunker but right now I'm using the 14mm pistol. Also while everyone knows this, don't take traps as a skill.

You can buy a p90 from the NCR, that's pretty good. I think it's 1 handed

I think the 223 pistol was the strongest in the game.

I thought most submachine guns were two handed. but I have never played with the one-handed perk before. One benefit of the 14mm pistol right now is that eye-targeting is really easy. I've been able to blind Geckos with ease.

Best one handed gun you can get is gauss pistol. That baby can compare to any other weapon in terms of power.
Sadly you can only get it towards the end so until then try to get .233 gun. Or just use the 9mm smg.

Upgraded revolver definitely punches above its weight considering how easy and cheap it is to get and abundance of ammo.

Definitely not the best but you can get it early and it is one handed.

And he actually kicks ass with it.
I think it only has 4 ap per shot required so even he can shoot 2x per round.

Revolver is better anyway. Lower AP cost to shoot is really good. It has a little lower damage than the shotgun but having different ammo types instead of one generic shotgun ammo with no bonuses/penalties means it ends up doing more anyway. Only holding six shots sucks but sawn off is even worse in that regard.

The 14mm is honestly solid for midgame, especially with that armor-piercing damage type-it chunks Enclave light armor nicely. But if you're sticking to pure one-handers, the .223 Pistol (the one that looks like Deckard's gun from Blade Runner) is your holy grail. Ridiculous crit damage and pinpoint VATS eye shots. You get it from the RNG gods-or the bloke west of NCR with the talking deathclaw. Just be polite, or pickpocket and reload till you snag it.

The ammo might have no bonuses/penalties but both the regular shotgun and sawed off have the Accurate Weapon perk for juicy +20% to hit

14mm is actually trash because its only ammo type has a -50% damage modifier. It effectively does 6-12 damage, which is shit. I don't care if it has good DR piercing, 6-12 damage is shit. Any enemy with decent DT is going to laugh it off. If it wasn't stuck with just the one shit ammo type it could be good, but it is, so it's not.
