Because gachas are designed in such a way that they are perfectly adapted to most adult peoples lives. They are like parasites that evolved to leech off their host for as long as possible and in a way that the host won't be too burdened by them. They usually feature daily tasks that can be done in a short while, they feature appealing characters that are as inoffensive as possible, they are build around building towards long term goals so it makes you feel like you have unfinished business and the only frustration can be overcome with time (or money). Basically they are like adult tamagochis that try to milk you for fucking money.

You used to have a ton of low/mid budget anime RPGs and action games. The majority either died out or slowed down to one or two console games a generation. The few that can still do frequent releases underwent a massive drop in quality when they were never great to begin with.
Gacha is filling the void for a lot of those people.

Gachas are perfect for employed people like me. They're simple, compact, and satisfy my gambling itch without having to spend money. It's right in my pocket and I can play whenever I want. The hate is unjustified.
