I think Celesdir was supposed to be an uncommon spawn somewhere on Feybreak but that was never fixed. I do agree that it's passive should be better like double health regen at max level. Mount speed is actually on the higher tier as far as ground mounts go, but the devs need to stop fellating Jetdragon to make them more relevant.

For the most part, you can get away with whatever, really.
If you wanna optinize a bit, Anubis is still probably the best general purpose and miner pal, between mining 4, super fast movement for transport, ect. Late to catch, but can be bred early with Relaxaurus + Celeray.
Ghangler Ignis is a champ for role compression at mining or cook bases, with fire 3, watering 4. Planting doesn't really have anyone super standout for it that I've seen, but there's plenty of multitasking planters at every stage.
Penking, Arsox, and maybe Petalia are probably the best general purpose base anchors for the midgame. Ymmv, but they cover basically everything you need, though bear in mind, you want a dedicated freezer box pal, not a multitasker.
Celeray and Kilimari are probably the best budget transporters, and can now get books.
Just one rank 2 electric pal is adequate for all of your power needs up until you get the oil well. The oil well, and enhanced generator, are fuckers that need good workers. Orserk is a good pick for this; it's a bit annoying to breed, but has a nice mix of electricity, and other minor tasks to do when its free. 2 or 3 Orserk should do it, depending on how well they're bred, or one well bred Orserk can carry a base that is stocked with other pals to help out, like Penking Lux. Every extra well at the base probably means one more Orserk.
Get Nocturnal on at least one Orserk, because otherwise the generator will lose power overnight.

As far as ranching goes, Chickipi and Moozarella or whatever are pretty handy, along with Beegarde if you want cakes. Vixy is handy early on if you want to catch hundreds of shitmons for whatever reason, and Dumud & Kelpsea solve your pal oil and fluid problems forever. Sibelex or whatever the fuck is nice for high quality cloth, even though the sell price was gutted.
All this shit can just be bought, but, it can be nice to have it build up passively. Ammo is way, way better to buy than make, though.

Wixen is also only weak to water which is easily avoidable, and strong against grass/ice which is crucial because grass/ice will FUCK any ground/dragon to death. Go to world settings, turn up the number of bases you can have by at least 1, and drop an extra base as close to yours as possible. It doesn't have to have any jobs or anything
That second base's guys will pile in as long as the altar is close enough to that base, and you can drown them in bodies.
Also make sure you're actually raising your dudes. Base pals have a tendency to cap out around the 30s, you need 60s.
Pack some promising looking combatants into your party, then run a dungeon or enemy base or two, with whatever staple pal is actually going to clear it.

1. Status/combos. Every single Water focused pal should have one electric move, and every single Electric focused pal should have one Water move. The respective statuses for these types boost the damage of the other type.
Something like Dragon Cannon is probably not that much worse than whatever basic bullet your mount was using, but the damage from ignition is way, way more than the stab bonus.
2. Some attacks are just really fukkin good. Lightning Strike is a phenomenal attack, that is 100% viable on almost anyone, for example. It does huge damage, and absolutely fucks enemy bases through walls.
3. Especially for pals you use as mounts, the best attacks are the ones you can use naturally and effectively, regardless of type. For example, I hate the laser attacks if I'm riding. They're great on pals I'm not riding, but, I can't ever seem to aim them correctly, and wind up wasting a lot of the shot. On the other hand, I fucking love Dragon Cannon, the little AOE it has makes it really versatile as a standard blast.
4. Unreliable attacks. Some types have niche gaps, or have kinda dogshit attacks occupying space for the type. Between all the attacks added to the game since release, this is kinda no longer a big picture problem, but might still be relevant to the moveset your pal actually has. If an attack is sucking, replace it, even if it isn't STAB. I find Electric probably struggles the most to put a completely functional moveset together, a lot of Electric attacks are dogshit for whatever reason.
5. Melee pals. If you're not named Anubis, you simply do not have enough STAB short range attacks to fill out a moveset and stay close. You're going to need to dip into other types to cram bursts on the set. Look for good status or other synergies to do this, of course.

You want to go to pic related as soon as you can to get Braloha, best gathering/harvesting pal in the game, who also makes breeding faster. Musclehead is a detriment, but at handiwork level 5, once you get the book, it's only a small one. It still works faster than a level 3 or 4 handiwork pal with artisan and all those other crafting speed passives
