Around the 7th gen when everything became worse, consoles became shitty PC's and games started catering to normalfag morons.

I guess around 2017. That was the time when their work output also generally slowed the fuck down so every game they announced took too long to come out, too many people thrown at it then it released half-baked.

And that's if it released at all. It's tragic when you look at Naughty Dog's work output through the years, those faggots had a highly polished game every 2 years. Now they get by with a game every 6 or 7 years while outsourcing rereleases to other studios and sadly that seems to sum up many western studios now. Lethargic as hell. Monolith went 8+ years without releasing a single product? And the ones in charge thought it fit that they stayed up and running for that long??

I gave up having any sympathy. ID was my only exception after Eternal but after The Dark Ages...

I just sorta stopped gradually. Switch was the newest console I had, and even Nintendo games were just sort of lack luster. Not bad, but just bland for the most part. Square hasn't done a thing to grip me in an age, Capcom killed any desire with Mon Hun Worldborne, and I'd long since divorced myself from Western big studios at that point.

I guess the only one I'll play at this point from a bigger budget is stuff like Atlus or RGG studios.

With Simcity 2013, which is now 12 years old making it older than SC4D when it came out. SC2013 doesn't even have 1/10th the features of SC4 let alone SC4D, and the forced online multiplayer didn't even work for the first fucking month which meant my money was stolen. Because I'm dumb, I waited for EA to make the game (lol) thereby preventing me from returning it to Target. I finally boot into a lobby and the game is shit. Only Small sized cities allowed and no meaningful rail or ferry hookups. I managed to unlock everything within an hour and did all the cities in the region, now capped at four. With nothing else to do I uninstalled the game, called Visa, and disputed the charge. Visa gave me my money back and that was the last time I gave EA my money and the last time I trusted any western AAA title without watching an LP or stream of it first.

And in that same time, some guy added full 3D models to SC4D now. There is NO reason to play Simcity 2013, ever.

But now they too seem to have fallen prey to the "take 15 years to develop a game" curse so I have effectively gone clean.

I buy and play more western and non-japanese games than I do japanese ones, I just don't buy AAA games that often, i don't even hate jap games or anything nor do I engage in retarded east west dichotomies, I just don't feel that interested in a lot of jap games

Early-mid 2010s, that's when open world, crafting, light rpg sytems were just flooding everything, the story became the biggest thing, dlc was rampant, always online crap was being pushed and all the cancer was really taking off.

I've always just wanted good gameplay and a nice cast of characters.
Sadly, western AAA games don't have any of that anymore.
Never mind that the marketing for most of the games in the west seems to be, "Haha, this game isn't for you!" And then, sure enough, the trailers and gameplay videos prove just that.
There was a time when both the east and west made good games, but that time is no more.
Least we still have older games like Half Life and Diablo 2.

I don't pretend to let these games colour my perspective of all western games because western generally means 2 entire continents which is extremely reductive and plenty of western games are good just not most massively advertised AAA ones. But I distinctly remember watching something like maybe the 2005 Spike Awards and all the GOTY candidates had little vignettes where the MCs talked themselves up and why their game deserved to win, and I remember thinking, "Literally all of these games suck ass." This is also when WoW came out and ruined MMOs forever. So this year sticks out vividly in my mind.
