Nobody knows. Sales numbers weren't released until after it came to PC because according to Trannyera, Sony considered the game an absolute failure with more than 3 million copies shipped, but unsold by March 2020.

DS1 sold like absolute shit before it came to PC, and there were a lot more PS4s than there are PS5s.
PC saved the game and Kojima's career, DS2 wouldn't even exist if it weren't for the PC release.
Not putting DS2 on PC day 1 is a real slap in the face to the people who made the first game a success, but Sony thinks these people will go out and buy a PS5. They're wrong.

>As reported by The Game Business (via Wccftech), data firm Ampere estimates that Death Stranding 2 sold 1.4 million copies by the end of June. While the game didnโ€™t perform as strongly as the first Death Stranding in terms of physical sales across Europe, digital sales have been much stronger this time.

>estimates

Literally a made up guess when physical sales do not demonstrate this sales trend.
If it had sold 1 million in its first week, they would have already trumpeted it with the celebratory image and stupid press releases like "the fastest-selling death stranding ever!"

Even Kojima himself mentioned that the PC was very successful, had the longest tail of sales(actual sales, not giveaway bullshit), and the most durable and consistent player base in game. . Its frustrating that DS2 didn't get concurrent PC release, or at least one scheduled shortly after the PS5 launch if he had to placate Sony. Then again, Sony has their heads up their asses refusing to bring titles to PC/Steam immediately despite the fact that almost nobody "double dips" or buys PS5 for one fucking game. They could have MORE sales by not involving this garbage exclusivity.

No, it's woke fatigue. It's brown fatigue. It's fatigue of "Press UP for 25 seconds, watch a 7-minute cutscene, press UP for 28 seconds, watch a 6-minute cutscene". It's fatigue of games with no gameplay, and shallow gameplay, and repetitive gameplay. It's fatigue of games with recycled assets from previous versions. It's fatigue of Part 4 and Part 5 and Part 6 and Part X of games. It's fatigue of remasters. It's fatigue of re-releases. It's fatigue of a lack of creativity and originality.

Yeah so why did Spiderman 2 cost 400 million dollars when it's the same fucking city? They don't help at all. This game needs to push serious numbers to recoup its cost and its definitely not on track to do that.

It will make it's money back on PC. You are forgetting that Death Stranding 1 sold 19 million copies, and most of those were on PC.

Sony just loves blasting bits and pieces of its own cock off with a revolver so they refused to do simultaneous release with PC, even though that would have made them way more fucking money.

Kojima has an extremely devoted base of millions of fans. They're just all on PC now ever since PlayStation became a gay dudebro console.

Idk how anyone is upset that more people aren't buying it even if you like DS. THEYRE MOVIE GAMES FUCKING RETARDS. Most people just give a shit about cutscenes anyways and youtube/twitch is so dominant today and free. You only give a shit to play if you had fun with the first otherwise just watch the fuckin movie like everyone else. Kojima has done this since the Ps3 it isn't exactly ground breaking anymore that a game where you barely do any gaming isn't a best seller. No matter how much I like his games it's just the fuckin truth they've been 60+ dollar movies forever.

>they think PC gamers care about Epic or PC Game Pass.

Even if it's true a bunch of players were on PC Gamepass or PS+, it still sold a fuckton of copies on Steam. The game still has the highest number of active players on all platforms on Steam. Also it was never put on Xbox Game Pass, only PC game pass. I will give it to you that probably a fair number of PS+ people tried the game that way. But most PC people would rather swim up a waterfall to buy a game on Steam rather than try any avenue to play a game on PC game pass or Epic.

Long story short, the game will 100% make it's money back on Steam. And if Sony actually wanted money, they'd have put it simultaneously on Steam. PC gamers do not get baited into buying consoles, they just wait patiently for PC ports. As it has been for time immemorial.

I think Sekiro was fun by accident, Miyazaki will never make a fun game of his own accord, he needed Bobby Kotick on his ass to actually make that game fun. Armored Core 6 is a fun game because it's not directed by Miyazaki.

I think there is no correlation whatsoever to how a game sells on PlayStation versus how it sells on PC. Rather, we have seen many examples that clearly demonstrate PC gamers have extremely different taste in games from PlayStation dudebros who mostly just play GTA, CoD, Madden, NBA2K, FIFA and Fortnite.

For an example of this, look at how PC gamers shunned most of Sony's ports or were generally indifferent to them, but swarmed the shit out of Stellar Blade.

PC gamers and PlayStation dudebros simply have very different tastes.

I am not going to speak for all PC gamers. I did not care for Bloodborne, I don't even think I'd care to attempt replaying it through emulation or a port. It just wasn't that good a game. Armored Core 6 though, I could probably play that game 100 times and never tire of it. Miyazaki just plain hates fun. For the record, I beat Elden Ring and didn't enjoy that game much either, beat it mostly just so I could tell people I beat it and didn't enjoy it that much.

unrelated but this is the only ps5 thread I can think of to ask in. how does the ds5 compare to the ds4, especially in terms of the charging cable not fucking disconnecting all the time? I use a ds4 as my controller on pc and it's getting old (battery life isn't very good, buttons getting a bit mushy, etc) and wasn't sure if I should buy a new one or finally upgrade

I've never had any issues with that and in terms of feel they're really good controllers, but the build quality is crap. The one I got with the console has stick drift in the right one and the replacement has got a busted spring in the R2 trigger, which is apparently a common fault.

People acting like he was some kind of fascist because of a handful of jokes making fun of gays and transsexuals 20-30 years ago are as silly as people acting like he's some kind of hyper left progressive just because he took a few swipes at Brexit and the Trump administration.

Jesus Christ, not only is Debrah Wilson in this but the scene she is introduced in is literally a "Men bad, therefore you Sam must be bad too" and just a half an hour before Fragile spouts the Hillary Clinton talking point of "Women are the primary victims of war" shit.

How is this scene not talked about more?

The Motherhood base almost made me want to quit the game. I'm glad there was a good Higgs scene just afterward, but still. Kojima has usually had a way of presenting the politics in a paletable way, but this is just too on the nose and almost entirely made for committee approval, or to check a box.

Anyone who claims to like MGS but dislike DS is either lying or a hypocrite. In fact the worst aspect of DS is that it's too similar to MGS.

>I never understand why Norman Reedus was a big deal
He isn't. I don't understand this cope with Kojima adding supposedly big stars, neither Norman Reedus nor Keifer Sutherland are big actors, both of them are relegated to TV series and small film appearances. Neither of them are gigantic celebrities either or have a particularly big cult following. They're small actors.

Still, both of them did a fantastic job as Sam Porter Bridges and Venom Snake, respectively, and that's all that matters. So good in fact that David Hayter is STILL seething about Sutherland's role as Venom Snake.

Well since the game is not available for free yet, it equals sold. You can't even get it on sale so those are full price $70-$80 copies.
When the game gets put on Steam for just $10 and is available for free on Epic Games and Gamepass, then you can complain about how the "20 million players" is actually only "1.3 million sold" like the first game. These will be the realest sales numbers you'll ever have.

>>715153446
Not really, no. He was in Boondock Saints which was big back in the day but then spent years doing nothing. He was in the latest John Wick so he's certainly growing, but his name isn't that famous. I don't think Kojima can offer as much money as Walking Dead or a Hollywood production either.

In the 2000s 24 was a big hit and Sutherland was kind a big deal, but he squandered all his potential (assuming he had any to begin with) and did nothing with his career.

No, its that Death Stranding 2 did not need to exist, it had no reason to exist, the first one was a perfect open shut story that ends rather beautifully.

Sam was alone all his life and was robbed of the chance to be a father, in the end after helping everybody he was still alone, nobody could help him.

Then it ends, in a heart felt moment where he thinks he lost his child a second time, he opened up, let people in, and just when he lost hope he was given a miracle, the baby lived and he left to become a father, to live how he wanted, to be happy.

THEN DEATH STRANDING 2 COMES ALONG AND KILLS THE BABY BUT THE BABY AINT DEAD O BY THE WAY SAM WE ROBBED YOU OF BEING A FATHER AND FUCKED YOU OVER WHOOPPS SORRY OH HEAD YOUR WIFE CHEATED ON YOU KEK!

Kojima should have worked on a new game, thats why I thought he made his gay little company, but instead he's just trying to make a second Metal Gear Solid series and who fucking cares.

Kojima famously hated sequels when he worked for Konami. It's why when he was asked to make a sequel to Metal Gear Solid he made a game everybody hated (but now praises) and then he tried to end the series 3 more times afterward.
He's hoping to recoup the success of MGS2. He wants DS2 to the "subversive masterpiece misunderstood upon launch" like MGS2 was, but he's trying too hard.
Hopefully OD and Physint sell better than DS2 and he stops doing sequels.

Why would Sony put the games they funded on other platforms? The whole point of exclusives is to get you to say "Hm, I'd really like to play this game, guess I'll shell out $700+tip for a PS5!" and then maybe you get sucked into the ecosystem and buy more stuff from them.
They only put their games on PC as sloppy seconds years after release because those people were never going to buy a PS5.

>Budget was probably 100m at least and that's being generous
If you think that's the budget, then 1.3 million in a weekend means it's doing well.
At $80 a game, that equates to $104,000,000. Roughly half of that would be physical sales where the seller takes a third of the charge, so about $18,000,000 can be removed from that number, bringing it to $86,000,000.
Considering, again, the 1.3 million sales is only accounting for one weekend, that number actually puts DS2's sales as on par with MGSV which made back its $80 million budget in the first few days of launch.
We also do not know how many of these sales were actually the $230 limited edition or the $100 digital deluxe pre-order version.

So in short, yeah it did well for a game solely released on a dead end console.

Nope, I cant remember the specific, moment but she just randomly starts talking about how women and girls are the biggest victims in a war, while Sam is standing there having just finished up getting into a gun battle while the woman on the ship was literally doing jack fucking shit.

I wanna explain something very quickly.
In Metal Gear games, everybody played a part, MGS1 you could get info, tracked your progress, etc, they all did something to help you.

In Death Stranding 2? Rainy sits on the ship and does nothing outside of a cutscene or two, same with all of the women.

Sam will get back from a mission and see the girls having a slumber party and then ask you to take their pictures, all of my cutscenes had Sam covered in sunburns, frost bite, blood sweat and dirt.

>SAM! Can you answer a question for me!

These are my stats by the end of Death Stranding 2. I basically trucked through most of my travel. Sometimes back and forth to get more mats to build the next road.

The game can be as comfy as you want it be. But if you're a fucking retard that carries everything on your back and walkes everywhere... it can be a pain in the arse.

AI horror director that causes a variety of events to happen in your game based on how you are playing.

>Takes away health packs if you are doing to good, takes away ammo or gives you more.
>Spawns more monsters, spawns more jumpscares.
>Changes the environment around, location of key items, rooms making each time you play random.

Imagine if you was playing a scary game and the minute you walk thru a door, the room behind you changes to something random and you feel like you are going insane the whole time.

At least thats what id fucking do, make a truly schizophrenic game where the wall just randomly starts talking to you and tells you to go thru a door that wasnt there a moment ago, but is now that you panned the camera away from it for a second.

Keep in mind, an EE causes an extinction event for a set group, not all of life! However she purposefully wanted to connect all of the beach's together for the soul purpose of ending all life, not just what was required of her.

The whole point of the first game was we can only evolve when we are together, and when we isolate ourselves off we cant grow thus an extinction event must occur to bring us together to evolve.

So with that said, Death Stranding 2 happens and

Once that tapers off, they'll announce a PC release, but exclusives do still sell consoles. Look at how many Switch 2s have sold and it has literally only one game.

The point is that Sam can't be killed for good. He just comes back to life every time he dies. If you're gonna send someone to fight.... you're better off sending the one man who has infinity 1ups.
Sure there are other men on board. But you don't see any of them going in and fighting. That's because they can't come back from dying.

He comes back as a Samuari and helps Sam.

Higgs died, he came back as a pain in the ass too.

In fact, 4000 people fucking died in a void out and they MAGICALLY CAME BACK TO BECOME THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES AND TRIED TO BRING IN TOTAL ISOLATION AND CONTROL!

So no, you can miss me with that shit.

I would buy it if this was Death Stranding 1, but Kojima threw that shit out the window for DS2, even Voidouts now are pointless.

>Its antimatter, nothing exists anymore, not here or even on the beach from a void out.
>Oh by the way a void out does nothing now and we have people going to the beach to install servers.

again, pointless, you are just desperate to eat up Kojima's badly written plot hole filled game and I am going to laugh and say its shit no matter what you say.

As someone who's "new" to kojima slop and is playing and replaying some of the MGS games i have to say that Kojima best games are MGS and MGSV. All the others are mediocre imitations of MGS or pure movie slop like 4.

MGSV was apparently the one with the least amount of kojimbo involvement so it makes sense that it's one of the best ones. II and III are like a mediocre I with a shit ton of lore exposition for no reason.

Oh yeah and Death Stranding 1/2 are the worst pieces of garbage i've ever """""""""""""Played"""""""""

Yeah,
there shouldnโ€™t be an explanation for a deity like this, or for a phenomenon like timefall.

And now they introduced a chick who can control it ,even reverse it. completely killing the tension.
The tone shouldโ€™ve been closer to something like Darkwood (paranoid and schizophrenic), not Hollywood morons chilling in bunkers.

I think Blasphemous also did a good job portraying a "glimpse of a higher power."

Which is why DS1 ending hits so fucking hard.

Even after every bit of what he did for others he was still essentially relegated down to how useful he was.

He brought the world together, helped others, everybody got their reward, except him as he goes to dispose of Lou.

Its heart breaking, so the big reveal after it all is one of the most earned moments you could have in a video game.

Its one thing to survive, but with Lou Sam wants to LIVE!

10/10

2 has a guitar battle...

I think DS2 is an improvement in almost every way beside the story. The story has higher highs than DS1 for sure, but they also leave you largely aimless to make a shitton of deliveries. The gameplay is a huge improvement if you liked that part of DS1 so you have a lot to look forward to, but the story is far more hit or miss. I personally found it satisfying and Kojima got me quite a few times, but there are a few black marks on it and the story has less to say. Some moments, like the doctor sequence, are just painful

The best way to play this game is to play it on Day 1. So you are other player are all helping each other build the roads, monorails, zip lines and other shit. That's the true experience that it was meant for.

Playing much later is basically ez mode where everything is already built for you.

I tried Death Stranding 1 since it's on gamepass now and it just sucks. You literally just walk from cutscene to cutscene, and honestly, that isn't all that bad, the problem is that there's like 10 minutes of gameplay for 20 minutes of classic Kojima nonsense cutscenes. I'd probably have played through more of it if I was actually PLAYING the game while this bullshit was running on my console. I won't be bothering with Cutscene Simulator 2. I WILL be playing MGS Delta when that comes out.

I've come to the conclusion that the Japanese have the writing prowess of a 5 year old playing with wrestling dolls. Just a series of nonsensical events that lead nowhere and mean nothing but seems cool at that moment in time. Kojima in particular likes to steal his sister's Barbies so that The Rock can protect her from Optimus Prime.

I've noticed a trend in Japanese writing. It's either moe-tier shounenslop where the hero wins with the power of friendship and he marries his childhood friend or it's complete schizophrenia nonsense that only causes plotholes and has practically no semblance of meaning.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth confirmed this for me.
