From what I understand, Blue Reflection was officially rated R18+ in Australia, however, people speculate that said age rating was something that Koei Tecmo didn't want for the game, so, the PS4 version wasn't released in Australia even though it could have been released without issues, it would simply be another game rated R18+. Because of Koei Tecmo not releasing the PS4 version in Australia despite having an age rating and not being RC, only the Steam version is available there without having to import the game.

Considering that the game is rated 16+ in Europe (including Germany), I don't think that they went too far with the R18+ rating in Australia.

Anon, R18+ is for high impact supposedly offensive content. MA15+ (effectively the tier below it) is for things like actual sex scenes in otherwise not sex focused content. Shower scenes that aren't overtly sexualised deserves at best an M rating, but even then you could at least settle for MA15+.
For reference the game with animated bear sex, among other things like drug usage, only got MA15+.

I disagree that Gust is in the same vein as Compile Heart. I like the games developed by Compile Heart but Atelier and even the Blue Reflection games for consoles (not so much the mobile game) are different compared to Neptunia, Mary Skelter, A Genkai Tokki game or even Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Force. It's absolutely repetitive. Whether you find that comfy or not is one thing, but it really lacks engaging dungeons, nor a reason to actually explore the school. You can basically teleport everywhere and you're told exactly where everything is. Combat had potential for depth, but ends up being too easy for any kind of experimenting to actually pay off. Even the superboss, ignoring how lame it is being a reskin of a basic enemy, really does not provide a good challenge for someone at the end of the game.
The boss fights are raw kino despite this though.
Also I agree with the rest, I just have my gripes because I have an actual want for interesting RPGs

Blue Prince. Half of the game is awesome. Figuring shit out and then doing it. The other half that ruins it is the RNG. I've noticed things in the house like the chess pieces and I don't know if I am missing a room, if its a red hearing or if I'm missing something in a room I already have down. BR is such a mixed bag series for me. I love the atmosphere and music of the first game but its barely even a game. The sequel has better gameplay and overall all around a better "game" but the setting and story are so fucking dog shit that it just feels like a fan fiction. The series is dead and it probably deserves to stay dead at this point. Gust / KT don't know what to do with it and there's no point to make a new JK fanservice game when they censor everything these days. Even the latest Atelier showed off Totori being censored in the latest trailer.

It's sad to think about because the first Blue reflection was supposedly some level of a passion project for the dev team. They made it with the little bit of profit they were allowed to spend when making Atelier games, and in the really budget restricted, shallow mess of a game it was, there was soul there. I think it depends on what they are priced at and how much content they added. I played the original mysterious trilogy and replayed the DX releases and found the additional content to be decent enough to replay the games. i'm also a big fan of the story and world building of ryza so the dx games give me a good excuse to go back and see the new stuff they added. It appears that Kilo is going to be added as a playable character in 1 which will add a bunch of new scenes with Bos hopefully.

It's been said before, the CERO got stricter throughout the years and now they can be even stricter than the ESRB and PEGI, this Neptunia game has the same age rating and it's the tamest game in the franchise to the point that it's the only Neptunia game rated E10+ and USK 6.

Of course, it goes without saying that the CERO and especially a C rating can allow the original design, Totori's design is just self-censored like that other person said but it's not something that they *really* need to do. The problem with Kuro was that it was inconsistent with previous world building of Calvard and then dumped stupid time travel bullshit filler at you. I don't care to go back and revisit the Sky games, they were good for their time but are such a slow drag. Barely anything happens in those games. The writing got so bad in Kuro that falcom didn't know where to take the series anymore because fans weren't buying them anymore because of how shit they got. Remaking the Sky series just screams desperation and a complete lack of vision for the series. They just want to milk fans instead of tying their story and world building together into a good game. It all went downhill after Cold Steel 4 where Falcom exposed themselves for the hacks they are.

Dating sim mechanics can go either way, but they're far more common in more overtly otaku-oriented JRPGs. That Valis drawing...it has potential but it definitely could be better. It's not something I'd expect in any game with a price tag or even something on Tapas (I say it as someone who doesn't read comics and manga but I've seen a few examples of content on Tapas mostly thanks to Dannphan and that video) but with practice it could look great.

I don't want to use this as a point of comparison or reference but Sable's Grimoire (picture related obviously) is a multiplatform visual novel with art that at least one person has described as ''not looking professionally made'' but as someone who has played the game, I consider Sable's Grimoire a game with really nice art at times and it looks decent *at least*...maybe we can all agree that the art of the Sable's Grimoire games (there are other games, yes) looks better than your art. So, I guess it's a matter of practice, it could look great with more effort or detail.

Games from companies like I mentioned have stories that revolve around a cast of cute girls with special powers. Either it'll be an all-female cast, the only significant male character will be a pseudo-self insert, or otherwise the male cast will be there, but they won't be as significant as the girls like in Luminous Arc and Stella Glow where the stories revolve around the witches first and foremost. Lord of Magna is another example where the story entirely revolves a cast of girls with special powers. These are all examples of games with bishoujo elements. Falcom is just a JRPG company, they're not like Compile Heart or GUST or Imageepoch. I don't know how else I'm supposed to communicate this. They don't have the elements that characterized those Vitacore games that made them so appealing to male otaku. And you can see how so far at least, none of their games have been targeted for censorship by a major platform like the others.
