Japanese spend a majority of their lives at work or commuting to and from work. The Switch as a piece of hardware caters to their cultural lifestyle far better than home consoles. Same reason mobile gacha is so big there.

Well it does play PC and xbox games decently well (if you are fine with 60fps which you shouldn't be) so it has that, at least compared to the competition.
People prefer saving like 200$ (at best) and then paying 400$ for PS+. Normies tend to be stupid and lazy which makes them prone towards buying consoles.
