This braindead genre really needs to die for good. Literally a glorified cookie-clicker.
>B-but muh strategy and p-planning
Go play RTS or isometric tactical turn-based games. Those games also have strategic and tactical layers deeper than put points into INT for Mage and spam Firaga on Snowman.

blobber is an old old term used to describe playing a party that gameplay wise just takes up one space on a grid. thats all it is. dungeon crawlers are something else because you can have single person party dungeon crawlers like kings field for example.

Should Next Stage try and shake up the tried and true EO formula in any way, or should it just be as traditional as possible? I'd sort of like to see the branching narrative stuff from EO3 taken to a greater extreme, but otherwise I'd want it traditional.

Drpg (dungeon crawler rpg) is the correct term, Blobbers is a forced named from one community. Dungeon crawlers is the technically correct term for both, but that is arguably too broad since it includes real time stuff like Grimrock with turn based stuff. Also the original term has been bastardized by people labelling literally everything as a dungeon crawler.

I'll only start to give a fuck about DRPG when:
>Every class has interaction with the map e.g. rogue can detect and disarm traps or pick locks, warrior can destroy breakable obstacles, priest can purify cursed obstacles, etc.
>Fatigue and hunger system, with camping, foraging, and cooking mechanics.
>Can customise party members' grunts, personality and battle shout-outs. Party members will banter with each other.
>Can target enemies' body parts during combat.
So far, all the existing DRPGs are just glorified corridor walkers with tacked-on menu simulator combat.

reminder that this game is fucking sick & hidden gem. it's gacha but you can literally ignore the gacha part after initial pull of generics for your party and play it like a normal janksovl wizardry. it's hard as balls and really expects an old-school gamer mindset in more ways than one. and the story WILL surprise you

It's the same as the term jrpg. If you use the literal definition of the individual words it covers such a broad stroke that it doesn't mean anything, but people don't mean every single conceivable instance of a role playing game from Japan when they say it. They're talking about a specific type of game.

2. No different from hiring a new party member. Besides, most people will just google the fusion table and work towards the end game demons, or fuse whatever highest-tier demons available at the moment that suit their needs.

Because it's a dead-end genre.
There's no real way to innovate the traditional turn-based JRPG formula without shifting genres entirely. It's half the reason why franchises like FF and DQ have shifted to real-time combat.

This is simply what happens when you release games in the same genre for five consecutive decades. The best you can do now is either try to refine the tired gameplay to its extreme, or ignore it completely and focus on something else like story or graphics.

Feel free to prove me wrong by coming up with a new innovation that doesn't completely change the spirit of the genre.
