Turn-based games can be fun, OP. The ones that I've played and enjoyed so far are:
>X-COM: Terror from the Deep
>XCOM: Enemy Unknown & Within
>XCOM 2 & War of the Chosen (unironically the best tactical isometric turn-based game imo, nothing comes close)
>Jagged Alliance 2
>Jagged Alliance 3
>Divinity Original Sin
>Divinity Original Sin 2 (the second best turn-based RPG)
>Baldur's Gate 3 (the best turn-based RPG)
>Solasta
>Phoenix Point (a massive disappointment considering that it was produced by Gollop, but overall I still enjoyed it)
>W40K: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters (Legendary is a torture especially during early game. But the Assassins are the most fun units that I've ever used so far, especially Callidus, Eversor and Culexus).
These are the ones that I couldn't get into and ended up dropping them. I just find their gameplay very simple and streamlined compared to the ones listed above:
>Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
>Fire Emblem Awakening
>Disgaea 5
>Disgaea 6
>Agarest: Generations of War
>Dragon Quest XI
>Battle Brothers
I might give Wartales and Xenonauts 2 a try next.

Menuslops have been stagnant for nearly four decades. The gameplay has never changed. Select a weakness exploiting move from the menu and press 1 button until you win the battle. There's nothing strategic or tactical about it. It's mostly common sense. Warrior? Put points into STR and equip whatever the best sword and armor you currently have. Mage? Put points into INT and consider elemental coverage when learning new spells. DQ, Persona, SMT, they are all same shit different skin. I bet my 10 bucks people who consume a steady diet of menuslops will get filtered hard by real time strategy games because their brains aren't used to fast thinking and decision making and juggling multiple variables at a time.

People have always played JRPGs for the story, not the gameplay

I love turn-based games like X-Com and Jagged Alliance, but I'll never get the appeal of this type of turn-based combat.

Black Souls threads are currently dead. No shit nobody talks about the gameplay. The threads in their heyday absolutely did though, lvl 1 runs are a lot of fun.

It's an average RPG Maker turn-based system.
The only special thing about it is weapon swapping which can lead to sick combos like vidrel.
