You can't cheat turn-based games. It's entirely mechanics, intellect-based, and entirely knowing your abilities/skills and how to utilize them conveniently and effectively.

I really dont get this turn based games hate on here. I'm in my 20s, I sometimes play normie games like cs/apex because thats all my friends play, but I find these fast paced action games really shallow. There is nothing interesting about them, the combat is simple, there is no maths (I mean builds like poe/dota etc), no cool teamwork interactions. You just turn your brain off and turn it back on for a few seconds everytime there is an engagement. Hating turn based games is the ultimate normalfag mask off moment

I play Hazama. He has a few combo starters but you'll often get it off of chain, 5A or 5B in neutral or while being pressured and his mix-up game stance stuff that leads into slightly different variations depending on which stance hits and whether or not you have time to empower it. As for making my own builds in RPGs, I usually enjoy defensively sound parties, traditional tank - healer - DPS fundamental set-up, built around payoff mechanics like taking advantage of ailments or stacking things up for a big turn of damage. I'll mess around with what is given to me until I get something like that working.

Anon, most turn-based games are knowledge check. The playing field is even once everyone has access to that knowledge. Meanwhile, real-time game not only test your knowledge but also your reflex, motor skills, decision making on the fly, reading your opponent, etc.

The only true skill testing games are action platformers and shmups. Anything that throws a variety of preprogrammed attacks at you (so the AI can't be "cheesed"). You either get good or you die. Learn the patterns and execute accordingly.

Not really. Lots of games, it's a lot easier to just rush through with basic buff and spank play than it is to have a party that can tank and deal with any situation. That sort of generalization leaves you underequipped for burst damage and that's what most players will gravitate towards since then you can turn the boss into a solvable math problem rather than a dynamic situation, and people prefer the fastest way to do things in general. And if you want my broader thoughts on payoff mechanics in most RPGs, they tend to be worse than more straight-forward means of dealing damage. It's hard to strike a good balance here. It's just preference for me, I like managing a lot of levers, but if the game makes that too hard then I'll simplify the play. In Etrian Odyssey I've ran turtle parties that have to deal with every one of the bosses attacks indefinitely because I have 1 DPS when you normally have 3 and I've ran ailment parties with no tank or healers that murder the boss in a few turns or die.
