Not sure how you can think the story had no stakes once Goysothoth appeared. Natlan was losing the war against the abyss until the Ode of Resurrection was invoked. The stakes were that the human side had finite resources with which to fight against an ineffable cosmic Fuck You Thing in the sky and everyone was sure to die unless the six heroes appeared in time to power up Mavuika.

Nightsoul was fucking awful. Making Mavuika require to have other Natlan characters to function is limiting and dogshit, I refuse to pull for characters I don't like. It's a stupid gimmick that they also had to shoehorn in to bosses, further limiting the player. Natlan had too many weird little mechanics right at the start which overwhelmed my poor little mind. I adored Fontaine and thought the underwater mechanics were amazing, but something felt off about Natlan - like they were trying too hard, I guess. Anyway, for what it's worth a significant part of the complaints I've seen from various people aren't so much about the spaceship line itself but rather the reveal was handled. The line of dialogue is written as if it's something that gets brought up on a regular basis when it's the first genuine mention of it. When you then remember how in the livestream were they talked about the next region they mentioned they had acknowledged they had been bad at remembering there is a, to quote directly, "information gap between creators and players" it very must feels like it's something they just needed to get out of the way because they know they fucked up and require the information for something in the future

Story got oversimplified into generic Shonen from a morally gray conflict between Capitano's cold and calculated plan to end the war and save the world at any cost vs. Mavuika's extremely convoluted and flawed idealistic plan to save Natlan's culture and history at the expense of very likely failing and dooming all of Teyvat.
Dragon technology feels out of place unlike the advanced tech we saw before because it doesn't integrate well with Natlanese culture. These people have artisans who can work on and even replicate phlogiston technology and yet they live in mud huts surrounded by modern aesthetics of 8bit gamershit and hot topic clothes. Natlanegros lose their shit when one of them builds jetpacks (and claims they're from Fontaine) and buy all of them up even though they should easily be fucking Wakanda given that their own people can make all this shit.
Dawei took the camera meme to seriously so now in Natlan all the locals have to glaze Traveler at all times.
Meanwhile the entire story is actually driven by Mavuika and traveler is just the baby she carts around in a baby stroller. Mavuika herself is always perfect, always right, always succeeds and never ever faces any real adversity. Even her "tragic backstory" wehich is barely even tragic by the standards of what the other Archons go through is something she can drop at a moments notice because ironically the human Archon is the least human of them all.

Anon, I can almost assure you they were not copying or using any Mesoamerican references. miHoYo operates in Chinese. Chinese are not a big name in Mesoamerican research.

I'd say they succesfully got people disinterested in these over the years.
People did care about these things when every NPC you could interact with had an interesting story to tell tied to something and there was just nothing to do.
Over time they didn't move the story more than a single inch (reading Exposition: The Book from Enkanomiya is basically 90% of the lore) and just kept on piling up side stories with new worldbuilding but no real story relevance or conclusion.
Between that and the world getting bigger and less cohesive (just like in WoW, once the world itself starts wasting your time, you start ignoring it altogether) with each major version, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy.
People only get autistic over this shit if they are curious about the world. But there's no one left who thinks Genshin's world has anything interesting left to show.
The new areas are just amusement park rides and they are treated as such by the playerbase.

Mavuika's not a particularly compelling character. If you want to capture my interest, you need a sob story. Mavuika leaving behind her little sister and parents just doesn't strike the same emotional chords the way Furina and Nahida's backstories did. Given that she's an expy of that one character everyone knows about in Hi3, I would have thought they'd be setting up for a particularly tragic story with Mavuika. Maybe that'll still happen, but it's doubtful.

Also killing off Capitano and putting up a fucking statue of him alongside Natlan warriors feels hollow. I thought he'd be a playable character like other Harbingers, or at least a boss.
