I'm playing Crash for the first time and I'm really confused. I keep missing boxes and I guess I need to be able to ride these platforms to do that. How do I ride these things? Also fuck the end of level screen for telling me I missed boxes WHEN I CAN'T EVEN GET THEM AT THIS POINT APPARENTLY?

In the remake I'm pretty sure the loading screen tells you if you need another gem to get all the boxes in a level. In this level's case it looks like you need the red gem to make that platform visible (which will take you to a part of the level that has the rest of the boxes). You get the red gem from a later level.

you're going to hate when you get to crash 2 and 3 where late in the game they give you a gun and you realize that so many crates you passed were actually just meant to be shot to break them. lol

Maybe super duper mario is more your speed, OP. LOL!

Levels that require coloured gems to fully complete are always obvious because you'll see an "invisible" platform. Just worry about getting all of the boxes in levels without gem platforms until you have said coloured gems, then go back and do the rest.

You gonna do lot of levels again. The special levels that unlock gems needed for other stages require you to get all boxes without dying

Well I figured that, but sometimes you don't know till a bit in, and I imagine sometimes boxes BEFORE the platform are hard to get, and what if you waste time getting it then afterwards see a colored platform you can't use so it was pointless anyway...

That's true I guess. I never found it to be too much of an annoyance, since there's not THAT many levels with gem platforms, but yeah, if the loading hints say which ones have gem platforms then it's best to keep an eye on that.

If a gem is required on a level, blitz through it while ignoring the boxes and return later when you have the gem.

This is why the original game is better. You shouldn't even be seeing the box screen until you're good enough to beat the level without dying. Also, just less casualized overall.

Yup. Just try and finish the game first rather than worry about gems or going completionist right off the bat. Only one you might want to go for is the Lost City green gem but you gotta do it without dying.
I like most of the levels personally so they are fun to replay for games later.
