Already got a pitch for my ideal mecha game I can just copypaste from the earlier thread.

>3rd/1st person power armor/exosuit multiplayer combat game
>set on the moon for low gravity shenanigan and cool space atmosphere
>where you get to fight in something like picture related, a large exosuit with multiple hardpoints for different weapon systems.
>Gameplay would be focused on movement, using Moon's craters etc for cover while rapidly boosting across open areas of making long leaps using your jet engine/jump packs. Additionally both using your own sensors to spot enemies as well as spoofing detection via flares, sensor jammers and just making massive clouds of moon dust as you race across the surface would play a large part in obfuscating your own movements/trying to spot enemies at distance.
>Heavy customization, sort of like in Armored core, ranging from weapons, different parts, like sensors, armor plating, booster jets etc and of course, paintjobs.
>Weapon range would include shit like heavy machine guns, missile and rocket launchers, laser weapons, railguns etc.
>heavy emphasis on both ammo and heat management, as overheating can be deadly on the moon, plus the hotter you are running the easier you are to detect at distance via your heat signature. Some weapons like lasers etc would have no ammo pool but instead would generate massive amounts of heat when fired, making you easy to spot.
>ablative armor plating forms most of your health pool, if your components lose their armor they are pierced, and potentially destroyed. Destruction of stuff like limbs can be survived but if your core part is destroyed you die because the pilot goes with it.
>story could just be some standard slhock about megacorporations using exosuit mercenaries to fight over prime realestate and various industrial sites etc on the Moon.

>tl;dr: fast paced, mobility focused mecha game with locational damage and heavy focus on sensor management and customization of your mech.

I got no clue about making games beyond dabbling into 3d modelling and importing some simple assets and models into fucking unity while working as a part of a game demo project, so I am not equipped to answer the question if it would need it's own engine or not.
It is just an random idea for a cool game I'd like to play, I would not be able to make it with the limited skillset I have.

Something like that would be fitting as well given the whole sensor & sensor spoofing focus of the idea. With the customization stuff, you could perhaps have different mech/exosuit frames that have different base stats, like health pool, speed, and how heavy their loadout can be, granting a sort of loose "weight class" system to the game, while also allowing for otherwise rather wide range of customization within these weight classes. You could for example, have a light mech dedicated to moving fast and scouting, carrying only light weaponry for self defence, while at the same time, you could perhaps potentially customize the same frame to serve as a sort of stealthy sniper mech, using it's smaller frame to take better advantage of terrain while dedicating most of it's weightload to a heavy railcannon and long range targetting systems that let it nail mechs at range and so on.

Vision of Escaflowne - Opening-2024-03-14-21h54m31s400
>>715351120 (OP)
>Whats your idea of an ideal mecha game?
You had ONE JOB.
And you succeed.

Any mecha game of my liking must have:
- inertia / physics.
- a setting that fully justify & integrate the mech
- sense of scale
- not using fake complexity to replace actual gameplay

I've got many mech games I wish to exist.
To only go with one:

>**singing choir** basically ESCAFLOWNE **singing choir**

It is magical but magic is just unexplained technology and the trick is to not overdo it.

In a medieval fantasy world where exist giant creatures, mankind survived by recovering those creature magic core to improve their own magic.
But having a giant magic signature also mean a magic attack will make you feel too much pain to stay conscious.
The answer was to armor it being plain metal.
A spell that allow kinetic/puppetry is powered-up to move those giants.

Now on the gameplay side, normal human can only cope with 1/2 spells simultaneously at most
So you can't fight & float at the same time, you can't even float and move forward.
Thus the average mook fight only do that.

Players mecha can do more only if you meet people you are magically linked to by fate, they ride with you and use the same power source to cast. It's still barely enough to fight while flying but it makes you superior regardless of the mecha you use.
Also, you'd have the flying rock-ship from escaflowne, those are cool, plus flying castles to board.

So you fight:
- giant creatures
- mook mecha
- fate boosted mecha
- and ideally also beat troops using magics, you'd even fight mage-tower, firing super magic while protected like you

Oh and half-human exist because catgirl is what happen when giant-tiger decide to magically heal human.
Entire civilization thus worship their associated monster.
It would be a big point that Dragon typically rarely ever do that so dragon-people are too rare to form civilization.

Please steal my idea

It wasn't just Assault. Assault was just the straw that broke the camels back. Even in the 90s Activision and SonyTV were trying to fuck over DP9, then down the line there were tabletop projects that fell through like Heavy Gear Universe which was going to be the 4th Edition of the RPG and Dreadnaughts which was going to be a bigger scale game focused on the Terranovan landships. The IP has just had a deal of bad luck. DP9 isn't completely blameless but Activision is a monster.

Careful,
There's "VISION OF Escaflowne"
and there's the movie, which is... impressive visually but nowhere similar, I'd say avoid the movie.

The anime series is fine as long as you don't expect too much.
It's notable in some choices that are no longer done today. On others side it's also mixing shonen-shojo in unexpected way.
Plot don't make the most sense, but by that point you should no longer care.

You should have an opinion with 3 episodes. Just avoid some retarded english version that gutted the ESCAFLOWNE music.

I want a simulation, no Turn-based.
Not necessarily "mount&blade" level, we want to see the cool mechs.
But something where you still need to plan your moves several seconds ahead.
Ideally, you'd have full if lesser gameplay outside the mecha. Cities would be modeled so you visit them on foot, but also get to fight through the street in the mecha.

>Introduction arc
When you were kid you played with a very rich girl whose rock-ship visiter your village, setting you on foot to become a mecha pilot
She's the god-damn princess made to visit people fate-linked to her, there's a magic for that, and it's inevitable anyway

Timeskip
Fight in mecha, mook mode, to repeal invasion
Lose the mecha, get saved by the clumsy royal mecha pilot (she always kept track of you using that magic)
Fight in royal mecha, boosted-mode.

>Plot later
You get your own rockship
>free roaming overworld
You do mission to put money in your purse
Using that magic, you track & visit people fate-linked to you, each have their own quest
Turn out you are also linked to the BIG BAD (who is somehow linked to thousands)
The BIG BAD want to capture you because they seeks to regroup all of them
So you are cast away to avoid justifying this invasion (it fail)

>Plot ending
I've got ideas but who even read what I wrote? Essentially give an open hint about what fate-link mean peoples who had a personal impact on you
Also turn out the BIG BAD is a not-Dornkirk scientist who actually did many great things for his population, but then his own military aide thought to conquer all. The game end with him finally putting a stop to this with a magic boosted speech to every single person fate-linked to him

Now will someone please steal my idea and make AAA game out of it?

Agreed. Those redesigns felt more like someone mashed Battletech with leftover Gundam frames and called it a day. Classic Heavy Gear had this grounded, industrial look-gears looked like machines you'd actually see on a war-torn colony planet, not cosplay mechs with rollerblades. The Jagers used to feel like proper scout-killer units, not whatever that weird bubble-chested abomination was. Honestly, give me V-engines, rotational thrusters, and shoulder mortars any day over generic FPS mech clone junk.

A Zaku can BTFO a Gundam, even if the "gundanium armor" retconned as reactive armor they needed to accept back then.
The question is whether or not your pilot is a newtype who can magically ignore the all-band visual minovsky jamming and read the position of everyone around without even needing sensors.

But it more than making an enemy who is ridiculously hard to beat.

If I had to do it:
>early game, before you gain yourself such power
>enemy pilot a mecha you already fought and have absolutely normal specs
>approach behind it
>you are used to detecting presence using radar so you know it cannot ignore your presence
>the moment you shot the mecha dodge

Haha, yeah.
>Cybrids see humanityโ€™s will to live and fight as the reason the first Earthsieges failed, so most Cybrid tactics are centered around breaking this will. They shut down communication networks to leave the humans blind. They spread misinformation to sow discord. Trojan Horse units are used to shut down facilities and murder selected individuals to cause extreme paranoia. Sound recordings of humans undergoing Dissector experimentation are played over speakers during sieges and bombing raids. Captured women and children are tied to or impaled upon Cybrid Hercs and tanks for combat operations. Captives are implanted with bombs and then released to join up with other refugees, and the bombs are then triggered during the reunion. This has led to a human policy of shooting anyone returning from Cybrid controlled territory.

Absolutely, yes.
>Where to fucking start?
Watch the OVA then the movie, then move onto the TV series.
The OVA isn't really too focused on the actual mechs, word of warning. It's more of a police buddy-cop comedy with robots in the background and the movie is a detective drama for the vast majority of it. The TV series is much more focused on cop mechs doing cop mech things. I haven't seen the second movie yet but from what I know it's great but barely has any mechs in it.

BOO!
Moon is a cool and criminally underutilized setting for games and mech/exosuits make perfect sense as the weapon platform for lunar surfaces.

>Essentially big, armored space suits
>Low gravity does away with a lot of the weight issues a mech would have
>Lunar surface is a bitch for treads and wheels due to low gravity leading to low traction, making legs actually quite a bit more useful for manouvering. Also helps with scaling craters etc.

It's underused but for far more than its empty surface.
The low gravity would allow incredibly high building
The lack of atmosphere allows to use magnetic accelerator to reach orbital velocity
It's the only place where you can honestly build a space elevator and (one) said elevator would constantly point at Earth while also reaching Lagrange point L1.

It be like:
>MARS COLONY nยฐ875561
>so it's a western, except sci-fi
>also bio-dome cause you can't actually breath out there

When it could be:
>MOON COLONY
>economic center because it's not far from Earth and offer both easy launch yet some gravity
>arrive to the elevator, 0G area, rotating colony linked to each other, each a biome
>descend by one of the space rail
>vacuum magrail get you there at incredible speed
>enter giant dome bigger than any Martian building could be
>forest of giant genetically engineered trees
>you can fly with plain electric propeller
>go underground
>giant open space city
>water from asteroid mining used in fake river systems
>the weak gravity allows gigantic waves, in a turn the waters basically flow on the walls
>reach industrial zone
>spaceship can be stored and take-off without needing magical antigrav

fully customizable mech with battle damage actually impacting it, i'm talking let it get so bad your completely helpless.

you can opt for a back mounted jet pack or boosters on the legs, the legs will allow you to dodge in mid-air but are significantly more fragile and if one leg is shot up too much your ability to do any sort of booster jump to be fucked, you will get off the ground but it mostly just launches you off to the side.

your primary gun can get blown apart/off and you have to use sub weapons and/or a literal melee attack, these also can be disabled.

you can opt for mech legs or tank tracks, both have their pros and cons, you can even go to extremes and opt to be a literal tank for increased durability but significantly reduced mobility, this also allows you to have a heavier duty cannon.

weight affects mobility and any sort of booster jump mobility, with enough armor/weapons your booster jump can get so bad it doesn't even really work, or have significant delay to get a jet boost going.

let limbs to be blown off and if it wasn't a vital part you can keep going if you keep collecting health pickups, your still battle scarred and lacking an arm or something but you can stay in the fight longer if you keep getting pickups, the point is even good players will get worn down through a battle of attrition.

a scenario: a humanoid mech with a back mounted jet pack goes through a trapped corridor and a mine blows both legs off, you use your jet pack for any sort of mobility, however if your gun is also lost you can use your arms as your legs instead and use shoulder mounted machine guns/missile launchers, your crippled but might get a few more kills in before your done in yourself.

Honestly, it's probably for the best.
The storyline was already fully played out. Kojimbo would have made it something... crazy. Death Stranding looking normal in comparison.
And if Kojima do not possess the license, it means he can have Yoji Shinkawa working on something else.

Maybe even use his Ludens exo-armor.

Inside you can have literal ninja inside a moon-city. You can jump 10m high, cling to wall without effort, just add danger that make using gun too dangerous and you can bring back all sort of melee weapon in space-station.

Don't forget that swimming pools on the moon would be crazy fun due to the low gravity. A human could basically do dolphin tier tricks on the moon due to the lower gravity making it easier for us to propel ourself out of the water by lessening our weigh, thus making it easier for us to move, while at the same time not affecting the volume of water we displace when swimming (which is what actually grants us speed as we swim), effectively meaning that we can swim faster and jump higher out of water on the moon.

If I were to make this >>715351395, I'd make it so that you could also walk around in the base etc from which you operate with your customizable pilot character, and socialize with other players.
And I'd include swimming mechanics just so that you could have low gravity swim sessions, and bikini babes on the moon.

I'm definitely not forgetting it, but there's less reason to have swimming in a video game. Thought my fashion on the moon would somehow involve high-cut swimsuit for autistic reasons.

I want a retelling of Char's Counterattack made in the Armored Core 6 engine, that has you playing as multiple characters from both sides of the conflict (basically every character with an on-screen presence who pilots a mobile suit), is intercut with scenes directly from the movie, has an art style that mimics the animation of the film, transitions seamlessly from footage to gameplay, preserves the raw panic and anti-gravity emotions of the movie, and ideally has input from Tomino on making it feel right.

There's no way this would happen, and if it did happen I dunno if they could get it exactly right, there is a certain feeling they need to nail

But that'd be it for me
Might be safer/better to make something original that aims for the same passion, rather than retreading that ground
Ace Combat 7 gets very very close to the ideal

eh,
You remind me I would definitely have a game that copy Gundam without getting stuck with its artistic style.

Thought my idea started with
>what if I genderbent the duo from Unicorn
>cute reserved girl fall into a mecha and try to defend her colony against monarchy themed enemy
>fight against the prince heir in the rotating colony and even capture him recovered by Earthian warship
>get involved in a conspiracy the princeling was fighting against, turning enemy into friend
and so on...

Would it even be feasible to make such a game on no budget and a bunch of hobbyists/amateurs (which is the most likely type of team you'd get together, even in the unlikely scenario you'd even gather any people for it on /v/). I for one, can't do much besides just draw shit and maybe make simple 3d models so I wouldn't be much of help in any project besides the most basic demos or shit like that.

I feel like AC would kind of suck with it honestly. In MechWarrior its cool since it moves at a slower pace adding an element of strategy. but in something like Heavy Gear 2 which isn't even full segmental damage, just general Gear debuffs, it makes combat even more brutal and one-shot. I feel like the same would happen to AC

It doesn't help that /v/ is filled with some of the most decrepit creatures you can find lmao. However, mecha threads seem to fly under their radar for the most part thank God. You should look to get a more solid idea of what you want out of the game with a well organized design document if you haven't already, it's a fun exercise and looks good to outsiders. All indie games start as a blocky demo too so no harm in starting there.

Would you guys like a balance system in a mech game, like the ability to get knocked over or knock over other mechs? Idk if it would just be annoying, but I do like the idea of mechs falling over from being shot, blown up, tackled, or tripping over environmental hazards/other mech corpses. And then having to get back up or maybe continuing combat while prone.
