This is a bug. You're not supposed to be able to catch Pals in cages. The game crashed because it tried to give you a Pal that didn't exist. You were in the wrong place anyway. You're supposed to kill an NPC that drops a 'lost pal' item or something. Remember to track the quest in the menu.

Use it for tiebreaking when it comes to moves or pals, but don't worry too much about it if you want to use a particular off-type move on a pal. Additionally, some status effects increase the damage other types do. Vine increases the damage of fire moves, and soak & shock increase the damage of electric & water respectively. Those synergies are worth more than STAB, and unless you have a very good moveset, the extra damage from poison or burning will almost always outpace Stab.

A more sophisticated solution would use some sort of procedural animation system, which probably already exists for UE5 as a system that you can buy, which would make the animation process more time consuming, I think, since you need to set the proper boundaries/volumes for the different things that a given animation can interact with.

I think there's a bit of struggle in balancing content that's "intended" to be done in a multiplayer environment. I absolutely felt this way about the Shadowbeak and Faleris towers on release, that you were never really intended to do them solo.

The problem is, I think in general, the stat system they're working with ends up being a LOT more swingy. Things either die in one or two hits, or are functionally unkillable in a reasonable sense. The earlier game bosses have a bit better balance because the stat numbers are a bit more "contained", but as the numbers get bigger, shit gets wild.
And the result of these two things is that, whatever the current "endgame" content is, is absurdly spongey, because it's kitted to survive multiple players, and there's no real way to scale over it, until the next update gives you 5 more levels and an equipment tier to get over that stuff, and then the next set of endgame content is the new wall.
There's also the player durability problem, where the player is absurdly squishy by endgame standards, and dying in 2 hits, one to crack your shield in one shot, then one to oneshot you, is a deep, deep hole to claw out of.

1. Open space. Pals don't like claustrophobic conditions, clusterfucks of work spaces, ect, and will often give up and work in place if things get cluttered.
2. Interiors should be 2 high. Pals CAN path through single high spaces regardless of their size, but 2 high helps keep pals from working from the floor below, and keeps them actually moving between floors.
3. Avoid huge Pals
The worst doesn't happen anymore, for a variety of reasons, but really big Pals have a tendency to decide they can't reach things, or reach through walls and floors to work. For some vital Pals like Braloha this is unavoidable, and it's a minor issue, but, if you want things to look nice, avoid 'em. I fukkin love a Jormuntard sticking his goddamn face through a hallway into the furnace outside, myself.
4. Be autistic about foundation connections. Put stairs down into the ground from every foundation, even if it looks flush. Avoid rooftops with no way down, or isolated areas outside of what's accessible, always include stairs to get down or at least to a standard area, or a break in the wall so that balcony is accessible. Remember Pals do not interact with doors. A closed door is impassable to a pal, unless they can reach through the floor or something.
5. Be mindful of the fastest route. If you have a nice, internal staircase, and a quick one on the outside for quick access, expect every single pal to prefer the outdoors one.
6. Put the food box somewhere central and easy to get to, not off in an asscrack.
7. Put baths around, not concentrated. Pals usually will not seek out baths, but they will use them when on break/frustrated if an unoccupied one is nearby. Put them near bottlenecks or work stations or near the food, so Pals move near them, and decide to use them. Don't put like 6 over in the corner.

I haven't had too much trouble with this.
I have a tower that's 7 stories tall, each floor is 2 spaces tall. Bottom floor beds and feed box, second floor mines and baths, third floor farms, fourth floor runover farms & ranch, crusher, mill, and one furnace, fifth floor more beds, the fishing hole, and baths, and an open balcony to land on or grapple to from on top of wardrobe near the palbox, sixth floor currently unused breed farms because I haven't moved breeding here yet, and a logging camp because it got forced out of the mine floor, seventh floor is my personal space where I store skill fruit and shit, and have a condenser, schematics, pal statue, ect. I have a separate, open face shed on the ground on the other side for my crafting belts, there's the large furnace, and cook pots in the middle between these structures, and there's the oil well & big generator kinda off in an enclosed dome, that has my expedition cave on top of it.
My personal space has a small house on top, and I have a shit box for old equipment on top that's *just* grazing the upper boundary line.

The only pathing issues I have are the medicine table, in the crafting belts, which is expected because it is crammed into a corner it shouldn't fit in, my Alpha Whalaska freezer, who usually does it from a bed, which is cute, and my Alpha Braloha who has a habit of climbing in a second story bath, standing up, and planting seeds through the roof above it, then sitting back down in the bath. Also cute.
Everyone else seems to have no problem navigating floors. My Orserk in particular moves between the generators and the fishing hole, probably the single longest regular commute in my base, with no apparent issue, besides the one time he got stuck on the expedition cave somehow, and when I build a structure on top, it gets swarmed by builders just fine.

Depends on what you want.
If you want space, then probably the best spots are either the beach kinda north of the boss penking, southwest of the low level oil rig, or icewind island, kinda on the northeast side, facing the celestial mountains. Both of those are really, really big, there's honestly room for two adjacent bases in those spots (I've used the beach next to penking for raid bosses for this very reason). Not quite as big, but the big, cylindrical building in the southern part of the celestial mountains is cool. A little janky, but it's totally immune to raids, as far as I've seen.
Coal, there's a few good spots here and there in the pal alliance areas. Two nodes is probably fine to float you to the structure. Metal is important, but beating their tower for the mine is better.
Sulfur, you don't really need in quantity enough for a node, and it's honestly better to just buy bullets.
Oil, you have some options. 2 wells is probably what you want at minimum, unless you've cranked the supply drop rate up. Sakujima has a few good spots peppered around, and the beach is a nice spot, too. The plateaus of the desert have some good spots like this, but the king of oil is the tropical islands, which have easy sites for 3 wells, and you MIGHT be able to squeeze in another one or two from the second cluster of 3.
If you want something a bit more visually interesting, there's a bunch of really nice mountain tops and vistas on the island with the free pal alliance tower. A lot of them have some inherent flaws you'll need to build around, but they're usually very secure and pretty. The tropical islands are nice for this, too. I kinda like the shipwreck islands, but I'm not sure if building on them is practical. The cylinder itself is kinda ugly, but has nice views.

Feybreak can be pretty, and have endgame resources, but is pretty dangerous, and navigating can be a fucker until you start getting the SAM batteries taken care of.

Try to stay a bit away from the shoreline. The game kinda doesn't like structures getting put too close to where the water and beach meet, if you're too close you may have to pave over the whole thing.
The beach IS slightly sloped, so larger structures may need foundations to be built, to be flat enough.
It's a nice place. Not much of value there, rocks and trees only, but, I like it. The rig is visible, it was prettier before it was added, but it's occasionally a nice time killer if you're waiting for something to get done, to fly over and blast some shit.

Usually, pretty and functional are in opposition when it comes to base building. You can make things pretty, but then pals can't get around, get stuck, and work in place.
Or you can make things functional, which is mostly a flower explosion of workbenches around a central bed pile.

The autism tower or work cube are probably the best compromise between the two, which is why it's common. You hide the disgusting functional floor layout out of sight, and just focus on the externals and top, which can be pretty, more for player use, and have decorative work stations and shit.
Adding to this, is that there's currently no real activities or fun that pals do if they have no work. If you have a vanity base that's just pretty, and for your favorite pals to hang out in, they just slowly wander around.

I remember the last time I tried building something to this scale. By the time I got about halfway to the size of this guy's tower the game was starting to struggle performance-wise. And no, it wasn't because of my rig. Palworld is just poorly optimized (thanks, UE5), which, I get it, it's still in early access, and building massive things like this isn't the intention, but it was still a letdown after several days' worth of construction and resource gathering because the game got to a point where it was nearly unplayable if I got anywhere near enough to the structure to be rendered.

I have three bases. One for oil over at the volcano spot where I also stuck my expedition building. One for breeding pens on one of the northern low level islands. Then finally my actual base is on top of that that one ruin tower on snow island. The center area of the roof is just a bit bigger than the base circle. Beds are all in the middle near the palbox. Then I have the farms for minestrone north, the mines wrapped around to the east, then the production lines and forge and cook around the other edges. Then I still have room for a small house for me plus the other random things. Haven’t had any issues here in this spot. Of course I can’t say the base looks extremely nice though but it’s organized and none of my pals even the jorms get stuck anywhere.

To answer your question, they did rename the settlements and added in enemy bases. Note that some enemy bases did end up clipping into some people's already made bases, or now there's noisy next door neighbors for others. This basically happened in my oil base at Sakurajima, and there were two occasions where my base 'raided' theirs because one walked into aggro range. It was a funny war breakout initially, but my base isn't made to take enemy fire.

Try fast traveling a few times or entering/loading a few different areas, see if it kicks back in.

im on one of the new tropical islands now, i even placed 3 bases together on there and got away with a pretty cozy place since i only have 2 rachnes, 2 breeding pens and everything food related in one of them, so i build small wooden house with veranda from where i can watch my pals, the top part of the island is everything electricity/produnction related but just placed out in the open for efficiency and the smaller separate island right beside it has my mining nodes and the expedition thing on it.
the trees, waterfall and cliffs are enough to make it feel at home so i didnt went too crazy with the building

Reddit Island, top of the north cliffside plateau. Took ages to flatten it all and snap the walls just right with that janky-ass build system, but it paid off. The view is nuts and wind farms never stop. Had to mess around with spawn-blocking to get visitors not to derp into the sea under the cliff though. Highly recommend if you don't mind a bit of trial and error.

Which pals would be the most intelligent and which ones would be the least?

I know there was a level scaling for damage in the other levels, but does it feel that 60 to 65 is quite the gap in regards to the scale? Maybe it is just the arena in effect, but I barely scratched the team at 65, but when everyone else became 65, now we suddenly wipe out the enemy with no issue.

Ice wind island, initially i chose it for the clustered iron ore patch before we got ore mining sites, which was the next best site besides reddit rock. Built it more for functionality and was thinking about scrapping it and doing it oer actually. Being able to put nocturnal on any pal just makes beds decorations essentially. As for the EV/IVs, you don't even need to breed for them anymore. Just dig up some fruit and patch the holes. Although to do it comfortably you'll probably want to be mid or end game to get a steady supply.

There's a balance.
Random guys you catch off the street being the strongest of their kind isn't great, there's a degree of the fantasy that comes from breeding, training, and otherwise molding the monster into something far beyond its peers. If you skipped all of that, something important would be lost.
However, it also shouldn't be a tedious RNG fiesta. Palworld is honestly close to ideal right now. MOST trait builds are really easy to get, requiring at most 3 traits to roll, the only build that still requires getting a 4 trait godroll is probably getting a Neptilus or Jormuntide to ride, which takes some combination of Legend, Swift, King of the Waves, Ace Swimmer, or Demon God. Maaaaaybe Lunker.
Getting a "perfect" pal otherwise usually takes about 2 hours of one time investment to get the traits you actually want to pass around, assuming you didn't stumble on Demon God or Swift naturally, maybe another 2 hours to farm bounties and arena tickets for chips, followed by maybe 20 minutes concentrating your desired traits onto your first breeding stock pal.
From there, getting traits where you want is usually done within 4-6 breeds, followed by another 4-6 to get an ideal pal. If egg timers are off, this takes maybe like 45 minutes, maybe an hour if you need a third generation for whatever reason. You can absolutely double up on pals if you want more than one at a time. 3 breed farms is, I find, the sweet spot for getting shit done with that still as a mostly passive side activity. Then maybe 15 minutes of genociding the Japanese and/or clubbing seals and they're max level.

The soul and fruit grind takes a little longer, to be fair, and that probably will need to be done as a primary activity.
It's pretty fast work, and work you can actively progress visibly. You actually aren't breeding 300+ pals to get a good one, you are damn near guaranteed to have a "perfect" pal before you hit 2 stars.

IVs amount to about, iirc, a 30% difference overall. Demon God alone does this, let alone stacking, say, Demon God, Ferocious, and Legend.
IVs can also be boosted later with fruit, while besides getting obscenely lucky with Dr. Brawn, a pal without Demon God will just never have it.
