How do you make half life 3 be as thematically distinct from 2 as 1 was from it? Like where do you even take the story? The combine is defeated, there's the sequel bait about the borealis, and alyx implies it would've been about time travel. But how do you go directly from one thing to the other? What would be a plot for half life 3 that could be distinct enough to merit existing? The theories all make me feel like it would be a Cloverfield paradox tier flop.
