DS2 is an interesting case. Almost a real life Mandela effect in that it is a good game with the ghost of a bad game standing behind it. It's one of those cases where herd thinking hasn't caught up with reality yet.
The reason for this is that DS2 has existed in 2 states. When it launched, it was actually a buggy mess that people had a legitimate negative reaction to. This is when most people copy-pasted their impression of the game from.
Then, Scholar of the First Sin fixed most of the bugs and added more content. So anyone playing SotFS edition had a good experience/impression of the game. Now the good version of the game is fighting the herd opinion that was already formed by the initial launch.
As time goes on, the SotFS edition will win, as it is the only version that gets played now. It's just taking a really long time for some reason. Contrast this with games like No Man's Sky and Cyberpunk 2077 that patched up their shitty releases and immediately became universally beloved. I think the difference here is that DS2 went from bad to good, while those games went from bad to amazing.
tldr; The opinion of the masses who have never played the game can be slow to catch up to nuanced changes.
