The narrative isn't going to waste time making characters ask about them, or make things more confusing by having a character who wouldn't know have to speak around this inherent lack of knowledge without it meaning something. Kris is, by assumption of everyone, referred to by they, and that leaves the very nature of those pronouns up in the air since they/them is inherently an ambiguous way to refer to someone.
Notably this is used for The Knight very blatantly with Queen referring to the Knight as they, a deliberate narrative choice to keep their identity a secret for now.
