Finally getting around to finishing Baldur's Gate SoA for the first time, took down Kangaxx last night. Also been playing through the Tomb Raider series, those games are fucking excellent.

No, I really don't expect good games to get made ever again. The last game that I thought was truly great was Hi-Fi Rush and now that studio is dead. Nothing else looks interesting, just DEIslop, coomerslop, and pale imitations of long-dead franchises.

Currently playing Breath of the wild for the first time. It's ok. Not bad not masterpiecy. It feels like eating a cake or watching a series : I know I will never play it again and just enjoy exploring areas.

Got the job (wagie) got a house (lucked out) own a car. Even pursuing higher education at the moment. I'm almost 40 and I've only been in one short relationship. I bought some games from the current eshop sale like Bakeru, FF XII, Chocobo GP and Ys IX: Monstrum Nox and used physical copies of the Splinter Cell games that are delisted on the Xbox store so I can play them via backwards compatibility

Currently playing Avowed and Silent Hill Downpour on Xbox Series X, Persona 4 Golden and Lost Ruins on Switch, and Yakuza: Pirates in Hawaii on PS5.

Replayed SMT Nocturne for the first time in over 15 years. Game is as soulful as I remembered but man I dont know how the fuck I managed to get past some of the later teleport puzzle maps in the final dungeon by myself when I was younger. I must have used a guide but I don't remember doing so maybe it was just trial and error and I just had way more time on my hands back then.

Trying to decide now whether to move onto SMTV Vegeance since I've had it since launch but never played it or to complete every achievement since the HD remaster has those now. Beating the game 6 times seems like a massive chore to be honest but I know if I don't do it, I'll never get around to it

Well, that's debian, it gets a bit outdated before every major release, but for me "set and forget" is more important than some newer packages... I compulsively play Helldivers 2 when I’m bored, which is a habit I need to break since I’m 250/250 Medals and don’t need to play until Control Group drops on Thursday.

The big game I’ve been looking to get into is Total Warhammer 3, since I got it during the Steam sale and have all the DLCs unlocked with Creampie. Here’s the humdinger though; I’ve been bouncing off the gameplay repeatedly. It’s not like I hate the game, but I keep trying factions that don’t click for the long haul. Any advice on factions to play? I was thinking Tyrion since Ulthuan has natural borders to conquer and the gameplay of “shoot them with arrows until they die” is easy. But maybe Greenskins or Empire are good too.

Infra. I love it because this is basically Half-Life without enemies and urban exploration instead of aliens and secret bases. Finished both Chronicles of the Wolf and FFVI Pixel Remaster last week. I'm currently catching up on Doom WADs from the last few months until I decide what to play next.

Replayin subnautica 1 for the 11th time because its been a few years. Almost had a disaster running out of power when I went looking for kayanite with the sub and prawn. Had to leave the prawn behind and take his power cell.

Genshin is my daily game for about an hour a day. Also finished a Frackin Universe run of Starbound, I don't think it adds much more than a grind and it doesn't play nice with other mods. I dont know about dragging that far, but im pretty good at fighting multiple people. A skilled player among them will delay attacks to fuck me up but against the average person I can engage 3-5 people as long as they are generally infront of me or to left and right side. My footwork usually means the person on the front left attacks first, and I'll parry multiple incoming hits from left to right as I drag across. Dont need to necessarily parry every incoming blow, but you do need to do it often enough to extend the invulnerability window of the blue parry. Getting flanked often is the death sentence for me, because you cant turn and block two incoming blows at the same time. However, if a blow from the front happens, then a pause, then the guy behind you attacks, you often have time to turn and parry him. So in a 2v1 i can still sometimes live in that situation.

I'm also a fan of fighting large groups at once. I use the iframes on parry (because one guy will always just horizontal swing which is easy to counter) and then plow through all of them. Big swords like highlander are also good because you can backpedal out of their reach and still hit them. Sounds like you play similarly.

Replayed Within a Deep Forest for the first time in like 10 years and it holds up pretty well for a freeware game from 2006. Playing through Knytt Underground as it is at least half ball game.

As for new titles, Exo One and Crumble are both modern ball games more build around speed, which is fun. Both are very short, but I liked them.
Exo One was a very comfy, pretty game that let you go at some insane speeds.
Crumble was lighthearted and more challenging, but seems the speed cap is far lower, which is a shame. More involved platforming though.

I've spent the last few years playing older games I missed when I was younger. Some notable ones that I really enjoyed: Gothic I and II, Might & Magic 6, Lands of Lore 2, Bully, Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, and Shadow Man. I played a bunch of other ones too that I bounced off of, but mostly I haven't played a modern AAA game in years.

So I decided to try Ghost of Tsushima. It seems to be lauded everywhere, even here. I feel mixed about it. The environmental art direction is fantastic... I just wish the world was worth exploring. The storylines and characters are so insanely dull I can't believe this game wasn't laughed at for the writing and voice acting. It's worse than the worst fan fiction... but then again that's the quality of modern fiction writing in books too these days. On the plus side I found the combat to be really fun and feel good to play, but the stealth felt lame and too easy.

Overall it's crazy how much more polished and normalized game controls and interactions are. Cameras work perfectly, animations flow across the environment, interactions are simple and intuitive. The level design really effectively communicates where to go and what you can climb on. There is so much jank that we've left behind moving into modern games... but we also left behind a ton of spirit, intelligence and creativity in the mass market homogenization of safe games for 80 IQ couch potatoes.

Playing the first Kingdom Come started out fairly boring. I was following the rules, trying to get some money together and stop being a bitch who couldn't fight or do anything. Eventually I started being able to kill guys in sword fights, sneak around and shoot arrows. At some point I was doing a quest about some poor girl whose parents died and her guardians basically treated her like a slave and eventually sold her off to the grave keeper or something. So one night I decide to sneak up to their house, and it happens to be raining and storming. I sneak into their house, and I had just unlocked the "kill them in their bed perk" and stabbed both parents to death in their sleep, then robbed all their shit. It felt really satisfying to be able to bring some vengeance against quest connected NPCs totally outside of the storyline.

There are other cool details, like I wanted to rob a wealthy guy in town so I snuck into his house and knocked him out while he was sleeping (so that he wouldn't wake up while I picked the locks on his chests). The next day after robbing him I thought I'd check him out and he was acting all groggy and fucked up saying he didn't remember what happened to him. Cool details!

It's too bad KCD2 went woke. I refuse to buy shit that pretends Africans and Arabs were "enlightened" and anything more than savage mongrels in medieval times (like they are today).

Same with Boneworks. I thought that game would have served as a global/universal blueprint by doing the whole body simulation thing. Now it will go down in history as a tech demo, which is kind of a meta joke within the game itself. I'm unsure of whether VR will make a comeback at this stage. There's still potential for that to be the case, it's all down to how triple A spend money in the medium. If they're willing to dedicate A teams instead of B or C teams to new projects.
