star citizen paypigs are alive and cult-level delusional

they have moved from "the game will release one day" to "the game has already released, it's really fun, we enjoy spawning our ship and flying to a bugged planet to fuse into the ground and deliver 3 boxes"

If squadron 42 gets the polish the devs have shown they WANT and have put into things...
Well, we shall see.

>>715500597
it sounds like you tried some baby beginner shit during one of their free flights (aka, invite people to play for free to flood the servers and stress test) and ragequit.
The paypigs are probably still salty over not getting pay2win mechanics in the end.

its got a ways to go, depending on how accurate these estimates are.
GTA online is its own beast, but people aren't ready to confront that.

>How come Derek Smart wasn't able to pull this off?

For one thing, the original Battlecruiser was released in 1996 for DOS, the total file size looks like it is about 250MB. The original release was a buggy mess. It saw updates in 1998, with '2.0', 'Millennium Edition' in 2001, and 'Millennium Gold' in 2003. Millennium Gold looks like it is also freeware. the file size on that is 228MB. The game did go through about eight years of updates. Star Citizen currently sits at a 110-120GB install. The kickstarter was 2012. The game was originally released in modules. Was made early access in 2017. They are in many ways building this from the ground up. I general summary, I think that these 'infinite universe' space exploration games have always been borderline impossible to make. Starfield, No Mans Sky, Star Citizen, Battlecruiser, they all seem to fall under the same level of over ambition. This is a genre that seems to be hard to crack.

Based? I mean, are you telling me you wouldn't power creep and drag game development for your dream game if your backers keep paying you for minimal updates on progress a year? You'd do the same if you were in his position and you all know it.

Going by Wakopedia:
> Battlecruiser 3K concept started in 1989.
> First media was shown in 1992.
> Was released in 1996. Deemed buggy by the PC gaming critics.
> Updated version was released in 1998. Fixes all sorts of bugs and issues, updates things.
> Battlecruiser Millennium is an updated version of 3k, released in 2001.
> Millennium Gold released 2003.
> Start to finish, roughly 14 years. All versions are freeware now. That was back in the 1990's and early 2000's.

Seeing as it's two games they are making it likely won't get close it with how much modern gta games burn for development and marketing.

>This game has to have set a record as the most expensive game.

Most expensive games to date:
- GTA VI (1-1.5 billion)
- Genshin Impact (966 million)
- Monopoly Go (apparently under a billion dollars. Mostly advertising)
- Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (700 million)
- Star Citizen (656 million)

I have no idea how accurate these numbers are. I have seen some reports that state Star Citizen has an 800 million dollar budget. I have no idea if that is true. Monopoly Go is pretty crazy. But it makes a lot of money, and that budget is advertising.

It's two games, the people buying ships for the mmo game are funding the single player game and getting scraps for their mmo.

>It's two games, the people buying ships for the mmo game are funding the single player game and getting scraps for their mmo.

Yeah, I knew that there is a single player campaign in development. I was a bit unaware that it is a stand along project. But will also be bundled with the main MMO. The budget is around $802 million, not 656 million. Old information, I suppose. I am not trying to defend Chris Roberts here. he did have a good pitch with his Kickstarter, and people known him as a 'space sim dude'. Given the Wing Commander games, Freelancer and Star Lancer and that stuff. These 'galaxy sized' exploration games always seem to struggle with the same problems during development. They are always so ambitious to the point where they seem like impossible dream projects.
