Are you all being serious? Is it actually skill because to me it looks like the game plays itself with all that grinding. It's literally a on rails driving game, how much skill could you need

I'm not sure if it's a skilled player, or just a toddler mashing buttons. Between the wide tracks and "everything is boosting you if you bump into it", what's even the point?
Unironically being first in MK now is being the biggest looser, you don't even seem to play the game?

why does the game need to "reward a skilled player"?

You don't lock on to rails and spamming rail jumps is unironically slower since you're constantly resetting the jump boosts.
It's something you'd have to play to understand, but if you're already averse to Mario Kart then this game won't change your mind. It's still MK to its core even if the gimmicks are fun.

>You don't lock on to rails
you can literally see the vehicles changing momentum as it approaches the rails in the air to lock onto the rails, and when you trick onto a rail that's not straight, you still follow it in the air, it's not even subtle
it could have been actually skill-based if the game just let you lift one side of the car or the other and leaves the driving entirely to you, but this would take too much skill they had to casualify the entire mechanic.

This legitimately looks closer to Tony Hawks Pro Skater than Mario Kart as far as gameplay is concerned. Wtf is this shit?

It’s incredibly easy to miss rails and fall off.

I just started playing and I feel out of sorts with this game. The long stretches of highways have me feel uneasy because im constantly seeking out to do something to give myself a boost whether it’s finding a jump or figuring out where the shortcuts are, of which there are many because it’s so open and not always apparent like in previous closed circuit Mario karts. I think I figured out how to control myself on rails. I have a hard time remembering where things like rails are, and I have so much trouble timing my charged jumps to get onto walls. maybe I’m speaking too soon but dare I say this is an actually difficult Mario kart?

it’s weird because when I started Mario kart 8 in 2014 I pretty much “got it” as soon as I finished the first couple of races and the game felt natural and effortless to me. in world I’m still adjusting to the seemingly slower driving and the pressure of having to do tricks to keep things interesting especially during those long stretches in between the circuits.
