I hate that Fallout 4 is actually probably the best mod platform and actual game for mod content in the Bethesda lineup, and yet even with all of that it's still kind of a pain and a chore to play because of how stupid the underlying stuff is.

Like, how fucking complicated is it really to just make the basic stuff work? The game gives you the option to build shit, but crashes if you even come close to the amount of shit it will let you build. Fucking why bro, just make it work.

In-game art often looks worse than the final product but Bethesda games definitely take the cake on that front. If you take a shot for every time you see something amazing in one of their art books with a description like "we didn't implement this because it was too much work" you'll be dead of kidney failure within 24 hours.

In this case though, Power Armor just looks shit in 3 and New Vegas cause they're supposed to be big and bulky and imposing, but that'd involve dicking around with rigs and skeletons and animations and Bethesda clearly couldn't be bothered, so they just look like a costume from a low budget adaptation. Here's a screen of a mod that fixes the issue, you can see what a difference it makes.

The game expects you to follow a certain path and talk with certain NPCs, because the main story seems to have been made with the idea that the player woulnt just fuck off to do their own thing right away in mind.
I played for tens of hours to see what the game was like and in one of the Vaults you get to speak to children about what the wasteland is like and my character told them stories about how she went to help the people in the museum , put on a power armor and fought a Deathclaw, I never did any of this shit.
Also after I finished the Far Harbor questline I had picked up on the fact that there might have been some extra stuff for Valentine so before I talked to the NPC that would end the questline I quickly went and got him as my companion.
Upon talking to him we had a conversation what an amazing adventure we had, despite never having him on the island in the first place.

This is just every female NPC in the game. I wouldn't be surprised is most NPCs were randomly generated within a "safe" set of parameters that was super tight so the devs could be lazy not just with generating the character faces but also not needing to manually adjust them if they went too wonky.

A lot of the aspects of the game was not designed with survival in mind. I love the part where if you accidentally finish the first quest from Automatron, you get bombarded with robot encounters that makes the game more annoying unless you go out of your way to beat the dlc. The only way to even get around survival was by cheesing the game anyways. If you genuinely think that beating the game in vanilla survival is rewarding and something to brag about, you should consider killing yourself.
