The more I play old Atlus games, the less I like Persona 5. It might have better gameplay, but it feels like it lost something?... It was heading in that direction since Persona 4, but Atlus games no longer feel Occult... Digital Devil Saga, Persona 3, and SMT Nocturne all feel like worlds you're not supposed to know about; they feel dark and mysterious... Even Persona 4 had this underpinning of occult darkness under everyday life. Persona 5, flashy and stylish, has "mature" realistic themes like abuse, yet feels so fucking normal... No secret societies or organizations, no weird technology mixed with occult magic, feels distinctly less Lynchian and dreamlike. I can't pin exactly what's wrong with it, though.
