Yeah, the fact that modders were able to do some of that without even having proper access shows that the devs are either lazy or bad designers who didn't consider how these kind of non-player centric interactions make games so much better due to them feeling alive and unpredictable.

As you say, when you go for a drive in Night City literally nothing happens unless its one of the repeated scripted events. It makes the world feel hollow.

I am currently replaying the game and there has been a rework of the perk system and some abilities with that, vehicle combat + quickhacks for them, housing, dating (kinda meh, feels weird), I think there was a rework to cybergear, definitely some added quests here and there, and that's about it. I'd say the game is less buggy now than 1,5-2 years ago also, only got 1 gamealtering bug a single time and was able to go back to my load which was a minute prior without issue.

I have also been enjoying the DLC now that I've gotten around to it, it wasn't out during my first round with the game.
The gigs feel a lot more fleshed out, and the story itself was of similar quality to the main story of the game.

They definitely added more random npc encounters like robberies and .. more robberies.
My favorite is definitely random car chases throughout the city though, you'll get random gang war shootouts or police chasing down gangs while shooting at them.
It feels a lot more organic now than it did a couple of years ago due to those relatively minor things.

I think optional realistic needs for food/drink/sleep would be cool too, I have literally never used any food or drinks across multiple playthroughs simply because it's a hassle to read what different food or drinks do, and since there is no need for them functionally. Same with sleep.

i used "dark future" for a CP2077 needs mod and it was nice. hunger, thirst and exhaustion meters so you have to eat, drink and sleep. not too obtrusive and it gives you a gameplay-related reason to return home or buy other apartments.

that "random" npc stuff in cyberpunk is just scriped events though, and you quickly see the same ones repeated. It's not emergent gameplay driven by the AI's actions like can happen in gta or other games.

And yeah realistic needs would give a reason to actually use the food we collect, and modders have already done it so there's nothing stopping the devs from doing it if they wanted to.

When I played it it was still very buggy and I kind of rushed through the main quest and the more-interesting side quests. Unless todays patch changes things, all the NPCs are basically cardboard cutouts. They don't interact at all. The only time stuff "happens" like gangs fighting or cop shootouts, someone being arrested etc, are due to a few various scripted events that can happen. The problem is that you will quickly see the same ones over and over so it doesnt feel organic.

There's a mod called Night City Alive that I consider essential because it adds gang member vehicles to regular traffic, which causes a lot of emergent situations. Two cars will blow by me chasing each other while I'm on the sidewalk, I'll hear shootouts erupt while I'm inside a gas station for a Gig–I once had two gang member cars at a stop light when a scripted gang ambush started, and they got roped into what became a 10-man shootout at an intersection. retard GTA has loads of stuff that isn't hard scripted to happen just because the player entered the area, NPCs can get into fights, they can steal cars, gang fights when they cross paths, cops react to all this etc, all this is just part of the NPC's AI. And then on top of that there's the "event" triggers that happen based on the NPC actions and not just the players actions, like ambulances and fire trucks turning up when this stuff happens.

Cyberpunk has none of this outside of some basic scripted events.

It was actually fucking weird that there were no self-driving cars when you're actually in the car apart from Delamain on specific quests. In fact it will be weird if even GTA6 releases without at least some self driving cars. We're already beating the future.
I like the feature since driving sucks ass in the game anyway. I like that it's an open world but I have almost no fun actually driving, so this would be a perfect way of doing it and still feel like you're traveling somewhere without using the fast trave hubs.

if you only expect a linear story-driven action game that just happens to be set in an open world, yes. Blowing enemies apart with a shotty feels good, the world is pretty and it runs well now as long as you're on a ps5 or better.

However if you go into it expecting GTA style sandbox world interaction, you're going to have a bad time. It's not that kind of game, basically nothing happens without the players involvement, you won't find NPCs throwing fists because another NPC bumped into them or NPCs jacking a car because they've freaked out or whatever.

Basically, know what you're getting into.
