I wonder what they'll do next with Donkey Kong. In a lot of ways it's obvious it was made by the Odyssey team, I think anyone could see that, and it's clear bringing K. Rool and the Kremlings back and the existence of a movie is setting up *something*. So what will they do from here? Odyssey doesn't feel like a huge departure from SM64 and Sunshine, just some spit and polish and a new mechanic to set it apart. But Bananza is such a weird game that doesn't play like DKC or DK64 or even any non-Rare spinoff before it. How are they keep going from there? Are they gonna make more 3D Donkey Kong games from now on? Will they bring back DKC? That one feels like it could be in the cards, cause 2D Mario and 3D Mario co-exist just fine, but then would it stay in-house and how would Bananza's existence influence it? It's just such a weird game and it makes me wonder what the future plans are.

I think if you announced DKC: K. Rool Returns, fans would have a mass orgasm and you kind of want to tie the upcoming movie and new games together, so that's my best guess. The Kremlings are memorable and marketable enough to fullfill a Koopa role. But Retro is busy with Prime 4 and I doubt they would want to make yet another DK, considering they were working on their own new IP before having to fix Prime 4, so I really dunno. Honest answer: DKC was never theirs from a cultural standpoint. It was Rare's. Rare made DKC into what it is. DKC's DNA is all Rare and their British cultural nods, right down to the music, the words, the terminology and the references. Nintendo, a Japanese company can use the characters and settings, but they can't replicate the British flair that DKC had. No company can, even Rare today can't do it. Retro tried but with too much intervention and hands-on supervision from Nintendo. Tropical Freeze feels like an expansion rather than a sequel. DKC2 was a full-fledged sequel.

It was mostly a final nail for most fans of the Zelda lore. The "Fallen Hero Timeline" was already bad enough, and then BOTW came with it's soft reboot ignoring all the timelines. Those were like two strikes already, so to speak. But none the less, fans keep pushing, and through all of BOTW easter eggs, references and new lore, they starting coming with new theories and ideas to "make sense" of it all. TOTK trow them all to the trash, while answering almost all the mysteries and questions from BOTW with "The Zonai did it". or just giving lazy answers to other questions like "This legend of the Missing Gerudo Heroine you were trying to tie to previous games? Yeah, no is just completely original, and none related event to them, don't think to hard about it". The thing is, it was like the final strike to most fans, as we allways knew how pointless it was to figure out the Zelda lore, but TotK felt like Nintendo actively trying to shut down any attempt to do so, as it cut as many ties (outside of outfits) as it could to previous games, outside the mandatory OoT easter egg (and even then, as things stand out, we can't even be sure if a reference to X character, is the character we think of), and now, the next game will either just follow through the Zonai lore of BOTW and TotK or ignore all it all and just start fresh. Either way, pointless as it may had always been, all the "fun" of figuring out the Zelda timeline and lore is kind of loss as of now, as the games now keep insisting that "It doesn't matter". One thing is being aware of that IRL and not caring, other is the game itself telling you so, and cutting any attemp of trying.
