Cool tech but only if you use the top models.
It gets old very fast.
Cumbersome, regular screen is more convenient and better.
Most software for it is tech demos, shovelwares, or chatrooms for trans groomers, and so far it hasn't moved past this point. And it isn't looking like it will during my lifetime.
Yes my VR headset has been in a box for more than a year now, unused.

Technological leaps this days are crazy, and things are going to get even crazier with AI assisting research and stuff.
I know people tells you AI is the devil because a bunch of cheap fucks are trying to make a quick buck by doing the most unethical shit with AI assisted tools. But there's people out there doing actual cool shit with it.

It's legitimately great for video games, even as is, but by nature needs to be designed for and so until it's miniaturized to the point that owning and using one is completely trivial, it will remain at the current level of popularity it's at (a supported niche).

Some genres are genuinely just objectively better in VR. Racing games are the best example. Playing a racing game in VR gives you a VASTLY better and more immediate sense of positioning and speed, which makes your reactions and control better, which makes you objectively better at the game. Playing the Wipeout Omega Collection in VR was for me the moment I realized this properly

Anyone used one of these? I looked like it might be perfect for me since the bulk and weight of other headsets was always a major annoyance. But holy shit I just can't stomach the total cost. The headset itself is one thing but needing a controller and basestations on top kills it. Apparently 2.0 atations are going for $220 Each.

The considerations for VR aren't that significant even if violations of those minor considerations can be felt severely.
>miniaturized
I think that is now a total meme, it just needs more mainstream media normalization, but you can't demonstrate VR in flat media, so it's basically a non-starter. Forever to be enjoyed only by people with spatial conceptualization skills and mastery of the conditional hypothetical.

One of the bigscreen beyond criticims is that the brightness isnt too great, and the FOV is quite small too. The face cushion can also be a hit or miss if your face isnt scanned perfectly.
I havent tried it myself so im just parroting what others said.. but IF you do get the bigscreen, get the second one that came out more recently.. it's an updated one. Not the one from almost 2 yrs ago

It's very unique platform. No one knows how to make good VR games and combined with the facts that it takes significantly more resources to make noteworthy title and there isn't that many potential players, there is little to play there. But some games can really damn fun, like beat saber, elite, HL:A, etc. Either way, you have to be really into some of these games or social aspects or porn in order to justify the purse imo.
I personally had much more fun programming stuff for VR than actually playing games.

Minituarization leads to mainstream media normalization though.

Nobody thinks "once it's small enough everyone will buy it". It's "once it's small enough and cheap enough to try with minimal friction to a new consumer, everyone will buy it".

It's not the fact it's a big bulky headset that's the issue, ultimately. It's the fact that it's a big bulky headset AND costs $500+.

People will be all over VR when their friend owns a pair of glasses that does it well for $100 - $200.
