>>715650579 (OP) 2011 complete changed games permanently??? >skyrim making openworldslop standard >dark souls making soulslikes pop up everywhere >minecraft released officially >the 3ds flopped making everyone believe handhelds were doomed >deus ex human revolution came out, inspiring immsims to make a comeback >Twitch launched, cementing streaming in the mainstream consciousness and forever altering what people expected out of games >skylanders introduced toys to life which has effected several mediums >You Don't Know Jack released, the forebearer to the party packs which have irreversibly altered what people expect out of party games >brink flopped monstrously >TEAM FORTRESS 2 WENT FREE TO PLAY >Limbo >Bastion >Rock of Ages >Dead Island >The Binding of Isaac >Payday >Jurassic Park: The Game being Telltale's foray into its specific style of games Man I could keep going but seriously? 2011 was one of THE most important years for gaming and directly changed the trajectory, we still aren't even at the zenith of its end-effects. I mean REALLY, you think gaming has been the same since 2010????? SERIOUSLY? The biggest change since sega dropping out of the race and xbox entering happened in 2011.
>>715650579 (OP) Some new slop genres got invented like live service/battle royale/hero shooters. Gameplay for most genres, especially their controls, hasn’t changed at all. Because why reinvent the wheel after a certain point?
>>715662128 >Gameplay for most genres, especially their controls, hasn’t changed at all. gyro started getting popular and is required for several games now, so I don't think that's quite true. And touchpads are making it big with the steam deck after being relegated to PS stuff since the Vita (seriously, why have they never taken advantage of the touch pad before? It's ignored by 99% of games)
