Expedition 33 is still the winner. I liked Death Stranding 2, I think I'll like Bananza, I'm looking forward to Yotei. But they're all too familiar. E33 is the only game that feels new and exciting this year. It's E33. Everybody else can seethe.

It won't, GOTY TGA isn't about the game quality but about the message the game sends.
Astro won because it was a small studio that Sony didn't believe in but the studio ended making a good game
Baldur won because it was also a studio not linked to another big publisher and had freedom to do whatever they wanted

The only way for a non released game to win this year like Ghost of Yotei is for the game to flop hard BUT comes Sucker Punch the studio
with a public statement to say "we are very happy of our team and their work, thus we decided to reward them with money & holiday time, there'll be no layoff".
With this, the jury voting for the goty will think they have to reward this initiative in a domain where failure means layoff.

It most definitely did not. It was the Stellar Blade of 2024. Good visuals but shallow unimaginative combat. 2024 also had metaphor and FF7 rebirth, both received “Must Play” honors. 2024 was way more competitive than people give it credit for.

I guess it’s new to western people including journos that have never actaully play a jrpg. It’s a western skin dated jrpg. I guess that’s “new” for those types of people.

Bananza is much more innovative. Also, don’t sleep on Prime 4. That will be another contender for sure.

It’s an old game at its core with (modern) graphics. The art looks cheap and because it is cheap. It’s 100% a budget game that’s why it has that unreal demo video look.
