This game got me into 2hu and honestly is one of the best SRW games I've played hands down. It's very similar in tightness to playing Z1 while still having a lot of the quality of life that later entries wound up having. If there's one thing I'm mad about, it's that after I bought all 4 OSTs off of dlsite, they still had more tracks that just weren't in the game and I found out complete box had even more tracks that weren't in the OST so I really hope they manage to get those in for a complete album or something. The nods to the music in both SRW and Touhou are incredible and it gives you a really good idea of how most characters tend to be depicted by the fanbase so it's a great springboard if you decide to get into the franchise as a whole afterward. I really hope you anons enjoy it, and even if not at least enjoy the music.

It treats it like one long game, you keep your upgrades so progression feels pretty good overall. NG+ even lets you bring over 5 or 6 of your favourite hus so you can enjoy having them around regardless of their actual recruitment in the story much earlier. They do refund your resources for NG+ iirc though so you can spread things out again if you like. Because the devs were fucking lunatics they even added additional conversations for boss fights in stages including paradoxical ones like having them fight themselves. Game has a lot of love in it.

A lot of those "stages" in 30 are just puzzle robo tier maps and shouldn't be counted. If you do then J easily rockets up to 109 maps in a single playthrough. 30 is about as long as Impact if you just focus on the maps with plot. Jokes aside just start with 6 on Normal, get the practice tool, keep doing specific things until you can beat the whole game without a Continue. After that it's smooth sailing up to 11 where your ass is kicked but the games peak with 6-8 and those are all relatively easy with 6 actually being the hardest of the three. You can do 9 and 10 if you want, and 11 is liked among good players but I simply don't get it. It feels like a lot of the difficulty comes from how underpowered you are in that game.

The biggest "issue" right now is that we're looking at an early game on par with the hard trifecta of UFO/LoLK/SA, with the resources as sparse as a game like TD (with slightly more bombs with the moon as your assist stone). Nah it's a gitgud kind of game like LoLK, hard at the beginning but easier as you learn to exploit the system. In LoLK it was maximizing grinding spots, here is gonna be maximizing Illuminati pyramid spawns since they drop majority of resources - the faster you kill them the higher the bar stays for the next pyramid spawn so you can spawn another one quicker.
Another one is maximizing incident stone fragments collection - if you are using shottype that allows you to early end hypermode (by pressing a button or alternatively getting damaged) you can time their release to match the moment when there is a bunch of fragments on screen thus being very quickly ready for another hypermode right after finishing the previous one. It's a very effective strategy on Lunatic

Not really. You can set your stat points to whatever stat or skill and reset them to put them on whatever a situation requires, kinda like Trials of Mana.

It has some mechanics taken from SaGa (battlefield effects, elemental attunement, formations) but it plays more like a linear dungeon crawl (you unlock areas in a strict order and most of the game is going through areas and fighting enemies and bosses). You make a party of 5 people + 1 leader and every character plays differently and has several ways of building them. Combat is fun and very complex with lots of different formations, status effects, powerful spells that affect both you and the enemy (for example, reducing healing received on all characters to 0). Several hundreds of different enemies to fight, some of which are basically minibosses and you can start encountering such enemies as early as the 2nd or 3rd zone. Lots of different bosses that require you to figure the encounter out before actually beating them (building resistances to their main damage elements and buffing/debuffing is just the first step).

Complete Box Switch is easier than the original releases since they buffed everyone especially Eiki and spirits behave like VTX30. No more busting your ass during EOSD.

Absolutely. Some of the older units were borderline unusable without specific abuse setups before the buffs. Eiki especially was a meme pick and now she’s actually putting in work. That being said, Lunatic still feels like getting smacked with a truck if you're not optimizing everything down to turn order and spellcard rotations. It's fun, but definitely not how I’d recommend people get into the series. Hard strikes a good balance - enough challenge without the mandatory savescumming.

Got the full package on Switch since it was on sale earlier this month and there were a bunch of songs that softlocked the game if you picked them in freeplay. Entire DLC packs were broken. Did the Steam version have that same problem?
