It's not about casting Hunter specifically. The death of the movie star has led to a lot of media projects in television, film, etc.'s casting tending to prioritize people who make big movements on social media or have a lot of instagram followers. It's basically just trying to co-opt people's interest in Nintendo projects, especially ones like Zelda which actually was getting a live action movie so people were interested in it happening, and now you can see the same shit with Metroid since that has a game coming out.
