How much and how far will AI change the future of the video game industry?

Short term? Games will get done faster since the only thing that isn't capable by AI is finished, ready to ship assets.

Long term? We'll be able to have conversations with random NPCs that'll be longer than a few lines, games will ship significantly faster and still be sold at $60-$70. Writing will go down in quality on average.

This is just replacing any army of Indian outsorcers with a machine, outsourced assets weren't the thing holding production back, lack of vision, spinning in circles and general incompetence is what destroyed western game industry dev times, AI is only going to make it worse. Indie slop will speed up but they didn't really have a Dev time issue, it was always an issue with controlling scope which AI will again make worse.

Everything will get cheaper at exponential rates since AI is a form of automation and literally trillions are being invested into the infrastructure for it. Altman said something like it will eventually just be the cost of electricity since the entire grid will exist for it mostly, and since it needs way more energy the cost of that will go down too as we strengthen the grid.

But I don't really agree with your idea there because people are social and want to do what other people do. There will continue to be FOTMs and GOTY nominations and winners. There will be way more games, mostly bad, but /v/ won't really change since we already ignore the ocean of crap that comes out.
