I never thought it would come to this day but logging back in recently and seeing the powerhouses of 2-3 years ago (Goon, Para, Bee, /tg/) have a sub-50 (sometimes sub-30) pop is heartbreaking.

The game got compromised the minute we got faggots going around turning it into a deathmatch trying to score as many validkills as possible. You couldn't get the 'moderate' experience no more that you could get on /tg/station in the past - you had to suffer with 13-year olds obsessed with CoD, where killcount and 'winning' is all that matters.

Add to that 2 powertripping coders that had no idea what they were doing - Errorage and Goofball and as a coder, you'll have a miserable experience. There was no way to save this project and I am surprised it lasted as long as it did.

Goonstation was always best except for the pissy admins and the coders literally having it out for me specifically. They didn’t like the way I won combat so they repeatedly nerfed my techniques in a very, very pointed way for like a month.

I did combat surgery where I’d drag around a roller bed or carry metal to build one, and some method of making someone horizontal for just a second. When they’d get laid out I’d roll the bed under them, buckle them in, and scapel/saw/scapel/saw and cut off their head or take out their heart or brain and eat it in front of them and proceed to my next victim.

The discord got pissy so they made it so surgery could fumble, so it wasn’t a trick you could do in two seconds. Then they made it so roller beds unbuckle their victims when moved. And so on and so on. How exhausting. I just wanted to eat everyone’s delicious hearts.

SS13 is my favorite game of all time, however most servers going to dynamic game mode over secret and combat changes ruined it.

I was victim to one recently. I hadn't played for a while and joined as Captain, admittedly not a fantastic move but I remembered enough to pass. We had vampires and no CMO/Chaplain/Chemist or RD, and maybe 1 or 2 secoffs which were immediately glared and drained.
I changed the AI's lawset to one that would properly contain the threat and not view the vampire as a member of the crew, to which the HoP at the time tried to hold a bogus no confidence vote for not deigning to inform the rest of command of my actions.
The AI was also arguing against the law change which they aren't allowed to do and once the round was over I was repeatedly shat on in the post-round chat by presumably these two and their friends.
They ruin the experience.

On Goonstation they added chemical barrels a while back. So an admin spawned a barrel full of an infinite amount of "Pizza" reagent. If you pour this on something it turns into pizza and becomes edible, so people were pouring it into beakers and splashing things on it for fun.
Someone had the bright idea of adding smoke powder to the barrel and setting it off. I'm not sure if it's like this on modern servers but Goon smoke powder clouds expand more based on the amount of chemicals in the cloud rather than how much smoke powder you use. So the infinite amount of Pizza created a typhoon that spread through the station. The entire halls were pizzafied and everyone laughed. But after a few minutes of this, the server crashed. Why? When an object turns into pizza, it applies a pizza texture to the object sprite and it becomes the new sprite, and everything on the station becoming pizza created so many new sprites that the server ran out of memory and crashed so hard it had to be manually restarted.

SS13 will always be special to me because it revealed all open source and non corpo games will always end up a shitfest of mentally deranged discord mods that self destruct into some power trip for a handful of people instead of the good of the group for one reason: Unemployment and disability benefits.

The cycle is always the same: Create a neat game, get friends involved, they get other like minded friends involved. Next year, a new mod team is chosen. A friend or two steps down to having outside obligations such as work, romance, hobbies, life in general. So you take a gamble with two new mods. One of which will be a basket case waiting to happen.
An individual on disability for manic disorder has nothing but time, and that time is usually filled with vices and self destructive habits such as excessive porn, drinking, drug use and always being online. As a result, they have all the time in the world to commit to this game.
Another year passes, more friends step down, new mods are needed. The new mod that has been showing up every single day for the last year steps up and recommends a few friends of his. They too, are always online, with no outside responsibilities and their entire world is this little powertrip.

His very first game he worked as engineer and somehow got in his head that the CE was an antag or something and pick a fight, which caused the CE to think my friend was antag.
