jump to straight to totk. botw is an inferior totk. oot and mask are dated and not worth playing. link's awakening has so little content and too many moon logics - you won't like it unless you have nostalgia for it.

Try the one on the NES
It's basic but set a standard for games like Zelda

Zelda 2 is hit or miss. I never tried it as I don't like thel ook of it (2d side scroller)
Zelda LttP is really hit or miss. You can skip to this if you don't like the NES version which most won't as it was released in the 1980s. I think the puzzles are ok but combat is terrible. You might or might not like it

If you prefer 3d look for the fan versions of the N64 games. OoT and MM both start of slow as fuck but get better. TP is slower but better-er.

or be a real chad and just start playing Link's Awakening DX on the game boy colour and then move onto Oracle of Ages then use the password to do a linked game in Seasons. Ages has more and harder puzzles but the story is supposed to be Ages > Seasons

If you want to play 2D Zelda, either Link to the Past or Link Between Worlds
For 3D Zelda, start with Ocarina of Time
After that, then anything goes. Just don't touch Zelda 1 or 2 because then you'll lose interest immediately

Just play LTTP and if you like that move on to Oracles.
I would also tell you to avoid TotK and just play BotW on CEMU. TotK is a bigger game but BotW is a better experience.

they don't have much of a story, so it really doesn't matter which one you play first.

Don't start with the first one. You need to already be a fan to enjoy that one because it will require patience on your end. Start with OoT and MM (look up the PC ports) for the 3D ones or with ALttP and LA for the 2D ones.

3d-pretty much all of them are a good start but skyward sword and the switch games are divisive, you will either love them or hate them

2d-also all of them, my personal favourite is minish cap. Avoid phantom hourglass though, its a direct sequel to wind waker.

In the course of my career as a vidcon specialist (my own coinage, spend it wisely), I have never seen such blatant and frankly sickening ignorance as that exhibited by the "people" (if, in fact, they are homo sapiens at all, as their intelligence implies elsewise) that claim that Zelda is not an RPG. There is nothing that Shigeru "Shiggy" Miyamoto could possibly do to make the vidcon any more of an RPG as it meets every single criterion for being one, particularly that it takes place in an imaginary realm with a fantastical beastiary, the damsel villain ratio is at or above standards, and that the core emphasis of the gameplay is on bedazzling all foes with impeccable swords and sorcery. Furthermore, this line of thought can be extended to all vidcons in which the player controls a character (hence, roleplaying), though I cringe slightly at the thought of such mundane vidcons as Madden being RPGs, as they do not even include exotic weaponry such as the tonfa.
