I'm gonna effortpost here to explain. If copying Call of Duty is what it took to fix Halo multiplayer, then I'm glad they did it - and ultimately they took the right lessons for Infinite's multiplayer.
Just take weapon balance as a starter. Across the board, it's significantly better in Halo 4 than EVERY Bungie Halo - which is often invalidated by the existence of a single meta gun: Pistol, BR, BR, Silenced Pistol, DMR. In Bungie multiplayer, beyond the basic starter, the only weapons with use are power weapons. That means that most matches are basically over once map control is established, because it's very hard to out-compete starters + power weapons, with just starters.
Whereas in Halo 4, multiple starters and kits means that there's more strategy and adaptability. For instance, the BR is a good all-rounder but can't out-range a DMR, which suffers against a Light Rifle in close range, which can rarely out-DPS a BR. All of which struggle against an AR in close range, which itself is beat by a Suppressor at point blank (but it itself can't do anything beyond that). Even the shitty meme weapons like the Needler have a use in Halo 4, it's a new power weapon that is basically 2 free kills at mid range. Why would you ever want to pick up a pistol in Halo 3 when it is an objective downgrade from your starting weapon in every regard? In Halo 4 it's great to finish off enemies fleeing from your primary AR / Suppressor, and it's a good sidearm they give you while carrying a flag besides.
Even the more Call of Duty aspects like calling in weapon drops is more interesting than the Bungie balance, and helps keep the game in a healthier state. You can hold onto a requisition and use your choice at a tactical moment, such as to kill a newly spawned Mantis, or use them immediately to get more in total.

Halo mp wasn't balanced around all weapons being equal utility it was balanced around weapon, equipment and grenades spawn timers. The BR is meant to be the Jack of all trades while there were only 4 available at most at one time.

Every town has been bastardized. Barely anyone remembers you despite you saving the entire fucking world just two years prior. Take Kakariko for instance. What was once one of the best places in BOTW is now a shitty tourist trap that’s annoying to have to get on all the scaffoldings to talk to all the quest NPCs who send you on more fetch quests that take way longer than they ever did in BOTW. In BOTW, Kakariko was the TUTORIAL for sidequesting by giving you five rapid fire quests that were simple but nice and effective and built out the townsfolk and culminated in one with a more interesting ending and a shrine. TOTK sends you on a wild goose chase through a fucking MC Escher painting. The second apocalypse has happened and no one cares, no one even cares that you’re there to help them either. Too busy fucking around with ruins to ask questions about anything. And to top it ALL off, if you think about climbing just a little too close to the large ring, they give you a long ass cutscene and put you back on the ground. Hope you weren’t trying to get a vantage to glide to make the traversal slightly less fucking tedious. Fuck. It’s all so fucking shit it makes me so mad.

Snowy Christmas Gotham was kino, the music is good, the characters being more aggressive and murderous gives the story a sharper edge, and of course the boss roster is great even if some of them are glorified QTE's.
