1998 or 2004.
2017 was looking optimistic but ultimately was a letdown.

2025 is the best year to be playing video games since we can play every game ever made on our PCs and lanky uniptimized shit from the 2010s should run butter smooth on our hardware with a compatability patch or 2.
We also have a ton of options for game engines to fuck around in. Some older games have been reverse engineered into source ports for us to experiment and expand upon.

I stumbled upon this but with 2016 in the image instead. Am I just precocious or are people really infantilized to have childhood nostalgia goggles into their teens and twenties? For me it peaks at around 5-7, then dips a bit, then drops fast starting with puberty. If I see a thing from 2014-2016 it's more like "oh hey" than me on the verge of tears from nostalgia. Did I grow up too fast or something?

I recently read my diary I wrote when I was 9-11 and I was shocked to see how "depressed" I was back then. I literally talked about killing myself all the time. I can't even imagine a kid that age saying such a thing. I mainly just complained about how much I hated school. I don't remember that AT ALL. We really do have rose-tinted glasses about our childhoods. We choose to remember the good parts and forget the bad parts

I honestly believe most people are wrong about their memories/have shitty recollections because I am told that ages 5-7 you barely remember yet I know for a fact that was the peak of my childhood because I can piece certain things together and make a timeline of stuff. So stuff people would say I was too young to remember/enjoy I know I fully experienced and enjoyed. To me it 100% peaked pre-recession. Our memory gets fucked with by pretty pictures but they don't tell everything. My preteen years (10-12) were awkward as fuck so I dunno how people think they're golden. By the time I was close to 13 I was reminscing on my (actual) childhood

It looked like a return to form for these franchises but they ended up shitting the bed really hard.
Also Mountain Blade Butterlord was supposed to come out that year but it didn't. And it ended up being shit anyway.
Kingdom Cum came out in 2017 and is now retroactively ruined by Vavra being a subversive kike.
Cuphead was good but retroactively ruined by its homosexual fanbase.
A Hat in Time was good.

2017 was probably the best year in recent gaming history but it's nowhere nearly on the same level as 1998-2004.

It was insane how they would drop genuinely landscape changing game one after another throughout that year and still spoil us rotten with sequels to popular gemes from just right before it.
And even some of the oddball games are played and praised by zoomers today like Simpsons Hit and Run. Which you know you have extreme kino when a game transcends generations like LBP did in 2008

The answer is in your post. The people are different now, you don't feel any connection to them. Everyone's just ragebaiting or falling for ragebait, constantly depressed from learning about tragedies around the world that they have no ability to do anything about, we're all oversocialized, on edge constantly, and it's not how humans are meant to live. It's the same reason the internet sucks so bad now and why it's actually preferable to go out into the world more, something I never thought I'd say. We used to go onto the Internet to escape the world for a few hours.

The problem is there's so much garbage being released now relative to then, that gems have a harder time standing out unless they're marketed heavily, or a named streamer picks it out of a hat to try.

If I could freeze things in terms of culture, media, games, all that, it'd be 2007-2012/2013. Maybe move it down to 2004-ish, not at all move it past 2013.

>>715829262
2008 was odd for me in that I was young enough to be insulated and my family well off enough to be as well. So whereas we really felt/feel the inflation era back then it was more familial crises we got going on.

I don't like people glibly using a pithy quote to sound wise, but look up the Gandalf quote to Frodo(?). The whole
>I wish I was not around to see such things/be in such an age
And gandalf telling him that is what all wish who live to see such times, all that is left to them is to do what they can with the time they are given.

For me, my imagination is my own and nobody can take that away. Music and that's all I need to work with it. The only threat to that is stressors of job/money/ect but if I can deal with those then I do not need any new books, any new movies, any new games.

So maybe you need to just focus on older books you like, older games, movies, whatever. Don't be on social media. Idle hands devils plaything, whenever I am productive doing something be it writing or modding I am happier than when I am browsing and listening to all the evils that >>715841787
correctly spelled out. And realizing those FOMO/FUD/add-inducing bullshit wants my attention. So why give it to them. Don't play their game and just leave their marketplace.
