There's a reason many of the most popular stealth games actually give players the ability to play aggressively, because the only people who enjoy retardedly crawling around and waiting 20 minutes for enemies to pass in the right way to be fun.
Finally we've uniformly agreed upon this and can now just have pure action games instead.

I'd say they became too difficult to make.
The little they had is now standard in many games.

>old stealth game
Low graphics, limited movement, enemies move in incredibly predictable patterns, cone of vision, visually distinct floor tile for stealth
Don't worry about sound and light reflection, your elite ninja is taking care of that but we can't make it justice.
It's actually super dark but you can see clearly because of your super ninja-senses or cyber-sight.
The camera are limited cause that's how they are IRL.

>modern stealth game
Absolute fidelity graphics with secondary light reflections and sound reverberation.
Ability to move in all 3 dimensions with multiple movement speed & stances.
World populated by dozen number of NPC that can react to suspicious or violent actions.
All camera have AI that instantly recognize movement while looking 360° around.

But just pretend you are hiding in these conveniently supersized grass,
Also pretend you are invisible on top of buildings because no one's eye is attracted by strange figure moving above them.
Also security camera had a serious budget cut, so did guard recruitment standard
Also bystander will not mind you being a visibly dangerous person unless you attack
Also it's very luminous with indestructible light everywhere because if it was dark we can't show of the graphics

The genre is not exciting enough to sell to the casual normalfags. So because of that we will not get cool stealth games anymore. The genre pretty much was perfected. What more can really even be done with it? This is why we got so called innovative shit in games like see through wall vision. Games that have stealth segments rather than being fully stealth games basically took over.

I played through Splinter Cell 1-4 again last year and came to the conclusion that stealth was at its peak with that series anyways. I do not wish to play these lame ass stealth games that make the pc way too overpowered. I think stealth seems to work best also with more linear style level designs or semi open but still mostly linear. So much of stealth's concept as a genre has to be thrown out with what is popular with modern gaming. This is why it just cannot work today or is forced to be a gimmick rather than a full game.

Call me crazy but I actually like and prefer if a stealth game does gameplay like in that picture. This is why I enjoyed SC1 so much. It oddly enough has amazing and also unrealistic lighting + shadows. Purposefully done because its meant to be a stealth game.

Also just want to say I kind of wish that CT and DA had an option where I can directly turn on SC1 style darkness. It kind of does have this if you adjust brightness and contrast to a certain degree but this will change everything about the game rather than just how the light and shadows/darkness looks. Not sure how I can explain any better but SC1's use of dark and light is so cool. Would have made CT even better if you had SC1 levels of dark vs light.

>The genre pretty much was perfected. What more can really even be done with it?
Lot, but they would be costly features that only interest smaller niches of players.

Like, imagine HITMAN or AC-like game,
Except your clothing actually matter, and you use generic NPC animation yourself when pretending to be one.
You play more than one character to have all type of situation.
(it was almost Commandos games in a way)

I still think a more linear approach to stealth with level design seems to suit the genre better. I think it works a lot better with trial and error and quick saving being a thing as well since if its going to be linear its likely going to have these things in this day and age.

Also fuck AC. Not that I think the games are bad but your post makes me remember how AC1 seemed like it was going to be a much more hardcore stealth game in all that pre-release hype surrounding it. I still enjoyed the game for what it was but it wasn't anywhere near what I thought it was going to be like. One of the biggest let downs I've ever had in being hyped for a game though it was probably my fault for being way too excited for what was never going to be.

>How do you even improve over the core splinter cell games?
By burning it all and not doing anything that look like it.
Sc was a stupid corridor game that just tried to outdo MGS with fancy one-use movements.

Assassin's Creed but with futuristic warrior and cyberwar to take care of cameras, with insect sized drone to enter isolated networks (that or you hack the coffee machine a dumbass linked to their work computer)
Anonymous No.715864323 [Report]

Do you play AC game on the highest difficulty? It becomes frustrating because that kind of stealth is unrealistic.
My only complaint about AC is to not have the option of disabling some light sources and using literal ninja sense as an excuse.
ok my second complaint is them using the OW approach of procedurally generating loot with level grinding.

I haven't played much games in the series. I tuned out of it very very early. After the second game. I kind of want to at least finish Exios story but I mostly would only want to play them to mess around with the parkour for a bit before growing bored and dropping the game. I often see anons say the series kind of goes downhill a lot after Black Flag.

They became uniform. Cone sight lines, detection timer rings, and maybe bushes or night help obfuscate you better. Assassin's Creed and Far Cry emphasized stealth + action as a "do whatever you want" thing so hard that everyone followed suit, and even games that stealth doesn't belong in inexplicably has stealth as an option in many encounters with all the exact same mechanics at play as the rest of them.
Now the industry largely believes that stealth-focused isn't going to pull a profit, what's marketable is letting players do either or. A Watch_Dogs 2 non-lethal stealth run is way more fun than a full lethal loud run, but the fact that you can just drop stealth to go guns ablazing at any point is merely expected now.

Save for Ape Escape, nothing else will be added that's worth noting. MGO does not return, but they include some faggy prop hunt variant.

I played AC black flag then jumped to AC shadow (yes, going straight from pirate to ninja)
To me it has been an improvement all around except from minor problem,
...and Black Flag had bsic boat gameplay (I hated how weather was only happening at some areas) so it was appealing.

Assassin's Creed problem is only that some aspects are so gloriously good and fun, than any time you meet its limitation, or some typical money scrubbing thing, they become extra frustrating as if they ruined "what could have been".

In AC Shadows I'd have to apply that to having a lot of clothing choices, but not using it as more than arbitrary skills buff.
Of course, going that way would have been mocked to death by 4chan for other reason
