one of the things i like about oot, and it's something you still rarely see, is how it uses ambience instead of music at times to set tone/mood. no music in most overworld places at night, music cuts out leading up to certain cutscenes or in certain places, etc., and then the ambient sfx in the scene takes over and sets the mood: insect noises, rain, wind, etc.

most games inundate you with music at all times when you're playing them. i really enjoyed what oot did with this and it's weird that it's so rare in games; even mm didn't do this.

It's one of the few games I genuinely think would benefit from a ground-up remake, if the right people were behind it.

They already remade in on the 3DS. Did you want to remake it hundreds of times like Konami does with the first Castlevania game?

Yeah it's great, I'm not a Zelda fanatic but I enjoy the series and every time I replay OoT I'm pleasantly surprised how well it holds up. It's amazing how much they did with how little they had, it's the complete opposite of BotW/TotK. It's a no bullshit game that gets straight to the point and doesn't waste your time, all killer no filler.

3DS was more of a texture pack though.

I mean a literal remake, from scratch.

It would just ruin it, if you made it for the modern audiences it wouldn't be the same game at all. One of the appeal of OoT is its charm and simplicity. Also they already sort of did a remake with TP.

Some day you'll all get old and some game that you lived through and played when it was contemporary, which you considered OK at best, will be inexplicably worshipped by kids, and you'll feel alienated from whatever strange magical worm creates mass opinions

I don't have to wait for that, almost all of the modern remakes of classics I would consider OK at best yet they get 10/10s and are considered masterpieces by the masses, and it's not even kids but people my age.

Expedition 33 recently became the highest rated game of all time on Metacritic for at least a week.
Metroid Prime used to be "the Citizen Kane of Gaming"
The Last of Us apparently invented storytelling in games (according to normalfags)
Donkey Kong Bananaza is apparently a 10/10
And Ocarina of Time is "the greatest game of time" - according to people who are still dumb enough to believe game reviews

OoT is different because there is at least some grounds for that claim, it's fueled by nostalgia sure but if you were a kid/teen at the time playing video games OoT was mindblowing, it was the "everything game": it had horse riding, archery, sword combat, mini games, waifus, dungeons, rewarding sidequests, fishing, music playing, secrets, etc..All of it with a top notch immersive presentation unlike something like Daggerfall. I was a grand adventure and there was nothing like that at the time. OoT deserves to be a contender for the time for doing all that at the time.

Maybe, but people still play it to this day, there are plenty of good games from the 90s and early 2000s that got forgotten but somehow OoT has such strong staying power that we have daily threads about it. Wouldn't you at least agree that it must have been pretty good?

A true revolution in terms of turning videogames into cinematic walking simulators.

It's debatable whether OOT is as good as ALttP
...and ALttP isn't as good as Super Metroid.
Morrowind came out 4 years after OOT.
Super Mario 64 is a better game on the same console.

Grander scale (Keep the key areas, but expand on Hyrule field with more shit, and interconnect them with more exploration. Give us more reason to use Epona.
I saw some art once, where it had Hyrule Town as it is in OOT, but it's all on a scalable hill, with The Temple of Time on one bit and what we have in OOT wrapping around it to the top, but the whole hill was explorable with new stuff too. It looked pretty cool, and would be a good visual in a modern OOT remake. Makes Hyrule look grander.

Orchestrated music and better SFX for immersion.

More heart containers (Maybe 5 like TP) to give new puzzles/discoveries to these expansions.

Update dungeons. They're good in presentation, but are a bit dated nowadays. Later Zeldas did dungeons mostly better. OOT's are more iconic. A remake with touchups is an opportunity to put it on top again.

A couple of new optional dungeons, similar to LADX. You get something worthwhile from them, but you don't have to do them.

An official remake is always gonna be doomed. They'll never be allowed to use the chanting in the Fire Temple again, or have red blood again.
